COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When starting an uprising, two is always better than one. Or so I’ve been told. And after you try Dubbel Fisted, you’ll find out the reason for its namesake. While peering into a glass of the deep amber colored brew you’re holding in your drinking hand, you’ll realize that you probably want one in your open hand too. Rich chocolate, caramel, and plum notes are almost too tempting for words.

On tap at Iron Fist - Darker amber with slightly off-white head and cloudy. Not much nose here. Starts off OK but fades to muddy flavor. Strange aftertaste, a bit medicinal. I could do without that. Least favorite of the 4 I tried.

Draught. Reddish brown with an off-white head. Aroma is of dark fruits, light yeast spice, a bit of molasses or caramel, lightly toasted malt, and a bit of citrus. No indication of the high abv. Sweet finish. Decent.

(750ml bottle) Pours a cloudy orangish body with a medium beige head. Aroma of raisins, plums, cocoa, vinous, caramel, and spoiled fruit (infection). Flavor of raisins, spoiled citrus, caramel, toffee, and cola. Noticeably infected.

750mL bottle, no date from Best Damn Beer Shop, don’t remember the price. Cloudy orange brown with a one finger beige head, fair retention. Yeasty dark fruity aroma of figs and prunes, reduced caramel syrup and dark toffee follow--very sweet--with a tinge of toasted malt. Flavor follows suit, but the toasted malt and alcohol do help a bit with keeping this from becoming cloying, which I was afraid of. Flavor does add a tinge of a misc fruit tang. The finish has some toast, minimal earthy bitterness, and only a tiny bit of alcohol--not the 8.1% that’s stated on the label, though. Scant carbonation with a medium body, but seemed a tad thin. Not bad.

Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 13, 2011
Pours a dark brownish-amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of dark fruits, caramel malt and yeast. Medium to full body and slightly syrupy with flavors of sweet caramel malt, fruit and yeast. The finish is sweet and malty with a lingering fruity yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.

750ml bottle. Clear amber/brown with a medium beige head. Aroma of bread dough, caramel and raisins. Flavor is rich and bready malt with hints of toffee and musty yeast. Medium body with average carbonation and a smooth mouth feel. Pretty good Dubbel, a bit more bready than others I’ve had though.

UPDATED: OCT 17, 2011 750mL bottle. Pours a dark reddish-brown with small white head. Aroma is subtle chocolate, dark fruit, a bit of booze...nothing overwhelming. Taste seems very salty; I can’t stop thinking of soy sauce. Also very sweet, caramel, more dark fruit. Carbonation is almost absent. I like this, but there is nothing special/bold/outstanding about it.

hopscotch (7535) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 16, 2011
Bottle… Murky light brown ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The nose is malty, fruity and lightly tangy - praline, date, fig, plum and brown sugar. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. The flavor is bursting with dark fruits, roasted tree nuts and both fruit skin tannins and tanginess. Malty, nutty finish.

Bottle. Mahogony beer with a dark cream colored head. Yeast and spice aroma with light banana and light malt. Malt and light caramel flavor with yeast and light spice. Medium bodied. Malt and spice lingers with light caramel, yeast, and light banana.
