The number one obstacle for blondes wishing to go rouge is figuring out which side they’re currently on. I suppose our Renegade Blonde is no exception. It’s an ale. Believe me I checked… But when it’s young, it has a crisp, malty flavor with a refreshingly bitter finish, not unlike a lager. With age, it develops a mild, fruity character, like an ale.

750ml bottle, golden color with an off-white head, with a light fruity yeastiness nose, with some faint citrus peel, light bready, pale, honeyed malt accents, and a faint floral citrus hop, spicy note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a clean mild bubblegum yeastiness, honeyish pale, munich, toasted, bready malt, faint corny sweetness character, with a light flowery citrus hop, zesty, spicy coriander flavour, leading towards a crisp citrus peel, faint pale maltiness, lingering soft leafy, citrus hop bittering finish.

Bottle. The top broke off the darn bottle while opening leaving part of the glass inside the cap. Weird. A cloudy orange and yellow color with a small white head. Aroma of sweetened creamed corn. Taste was similar to the aroma with sweet cut corn, some very mild noble hops way in the background.. Palate was medium. finished long with lingering sweetness. Overall; OK. Paired well with a creamy chicken soup.

Hard to love a blonde (beer) but I keep trying new versions, expecting a powerful, new blonde-based experience around the next corner. And that’s what brings me to Iron Fist’s Blonde, which I’m pretty sure I originally picked up on a whim at my local no-name grocery store. The blonde, yellow brew props up a frothy white foam, which in spite of a thick head, puts out a steady plume of tangy muscat smell, fresh and herbal. I also get fresh summertime snack smells like celery and apple, garnished with parsley. Herbal, fruity and vegetal, all at once. It must be healthy! The flavor follows-up, with a dry and herbal foretaste, and adding in lots of parsley and parsnip, oddly enough. The carbonation is healthy and hale, though, with hops kind of outlining the whole experience, and generating a long, enjoyable aftertaste. I’m not sure I liked it, but I appreciated it. This is vastly different from the normal blonde offerings, light and airy and sort of flavorless. It’s the taste of a summer garden, made drinkable.

Bottle at Pre-GBBF Shindig 2015. It pours clear golden - amber with a small white head. The nose is soft, grainy, bitter -sweet, dough, cereal and light wood. The taste is soft, toasted grain, grassy, icing sugar, dough, wood and a touch of spice with a dry, grassy finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A bit more alcoholic than I would expect for this sort of thing. A touch wishy-washy, but not all bad.

Very light haze on this gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry, modest fine carbonation. Airy pale malts, some sweetness. Mild orange and a trace of spice. Dry finish. It’s clean but a tad dry and a bit dull.
