COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Variety is the spice of life. Every once-in-a-while, you’ve gotta mix things up. Our catalyst for such an excursion out of the ordinary is, um, actually spice. Spice of Life uses traditional brewing spices in a way few dare to. Forsaking traditional ideas of subtlety and cowardly “Pinch of This, Pinch of That” brewing techniques, we embrace the flavors and launch them into a full frontal assault of delicious bitter orange peel and grains of paradise. Beautifully smooth coriander compliments and orange peel perfectly.

On tap. Clear copper pour with an off-white head. Aroma is heavy on the clove with some banana followed by a mix of spices and some darker malt in the background. Taste had a lot of clove with contrasting spices (slight bitterness) and some nice darker malt tones including some light tobacco. Clean, lightly coating mouthfeel. I enjoyed this beer.

Great hazy orange color. I like this one but the flavors are very strong. Big fan of the grains of paradise and there are plenty here. The beer is like a big imperial hefe with tons of spice. Nothing delicate here. Huge wheaty beer. Heavy body. Too heavy. It is delicious! Bitterness in the finish is a bit harsh. The beer does grow on you.

Overall, a nice unique beer. Pours a bright golden color with a white head. Smells herby, with some orange and lemon and wheat. Taste is peppery, with coriander, citrus and a spicy finish. Paired with Thai fish cakes, we notice less spice and pepper, and smooths out the beer. Had in the bottle.

March 15th, 2013 - There’s only one other review for this? It must have been another Ratebeerian at the San Diego Epic Beer Festival where I stumbled upon this tropical treat. The aroma is hard to glean off the taster glass, but I think I’m getting ephemeral and elusive qualities, a bit like a saison. The taste is clearer, presenting a soft palate that’s light to the touch, and brings a bit of white grape juice, clean cotton and cotton candy to bear. It’s a bit light, especially given the crowded tasting schedule for the day, but quite lovely, even I if I’m not catching the glint of lime.

On tap at Iron Fist - Poured orange color with thinner head and mild carbonation. Orange spice in the nose. Bigger malt profile, still spice comes through and lingers. A fuller version of Belgian white but with less wheat.

Tap. Pours an orange color with a white head. Aroma is of spices like coriander, some orange peel, pepper, some sweet malt and lighter fruits. The aroma follows the nose I get the coriander, orange peel and pepper, sweet malt and lighter fruits like pear. The body is medium with a dry mouth feel. Overall a pretty tasty brew.

High fluffy head. Tempting fragrance of flowers and resin, orange and herbs. Flat mouthfeel, low carbonation, medium of everything. The label build up my expectations but the beer doesn’t fill them. A rather average ale.
