2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
19th March 2013
Stouts and Porters II. Cloudy amber beer, off white head. Palate is light and a little dry. Mild fine carbonation. Light sweet dry malts, fair amount of sweet aniseed alcohol. Sugary sweet dried fruits and a does of paint stripping ethanol. Has a kind of ramped up Tripel sweetness here but there is way too much obvious alcohol.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAR 20, 2013 Bottle shared at Bruce’s, London during The Stouts Tasting, Pt. II - many thanks to Ken-O. Pours hazy, red-gold with a modest, foamy white head. Lots of yeasty, sugary malts in the nose, suggestions of banana, candi sugar. Huge sweet flavor, lots of alcohol, some bitter pine needles and grass, sugary dough, yeast. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warm to hot finish, bubblegum, sugary doughy bread, light white wood, syrupy sugars, dry banana. It is way too sweet and heavy; not a joy to drink during the twilight of a big stouts tasting, but I suppose there is a time and place for a beast like this.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Capped 750 from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. Fred is on top of new releases. Pours cloudy, dark, somewhat ruddy, amber. Decent creamy beige head. Aromas of yeast/spice, kandi, light pitted fruit, citrus. Can’t smell alcohol, but I get a burn deep in the trachea. Full bodied. The alcohol is present, but more a flavor enhancement than an issue. Flavor is yeast/spice, pretty roasted malt, hint of chocolate, definitely light pitted fruit, and pretty sure about citrus. And there’s sort of an overarching perfume/floral. Which maybe is a combo of alcohol and fruit esters. Fairly complex ale. The mouth feel is fantastic, and the flavors persist into the finish. This is a great sipper. Tho I’m gonna do the bottle. It is a very tasty ale.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured cloudy orange copper color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Very complex fruit, citrus and small alcohol aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy complex sweet flavor with medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a solid beer that exceeded my expectations.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Color is interesting, not even ball park for a tripel (or for most west coast IPAs). Deep amber, nearly a bronze-brown (WTH). Large and lasting, lightly tan head. Good lace. Aromas are of isoamyl acetate, brown sugar, alcohol, persimmons, baked apple, dark fruits, lightly grassy with some herbal hop character. Flavors are boozy, leathery, apple, light nearly applewood bacon like not (odd phenol/ester combo perhaps?), medium bitter, lots of esters, lightly grassy, medium herbal hop character. Medium to lively bubbles, dry and boozy.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle at THE stouts tasting part 2, thanks to Ken. It pours cloudy deep orange with a small off-white head. The nose is spice, celery, pear, apple, light tartness and icing sugar. The taste is toast, earth, hay, sweet pear, apple, banana, spice, alcohol warmth, sugar, pepper and honey with a pretty hot finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Sweet and hot are not what I’m looking for (in a beer).
