Pours pitch black with a bubbly head. Aroma of roasty malts, licorice, soy sauce, dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is roasty, dark chocolatey with notes of licorice, soy sauce and coffee. Finish is smooth, sweetish and roasty with loads of licorice. Pretty good, but nothing special.

On tap at Yardhouse San Diego. Pours very dark brown with a very thin tan head. Aroma is roasty with slight malt. Flavor is roasty no malt backbone at all. Very thin body. Watery. Disappointing.

I love the way this pours: deep dark and very opaque. There’s a black-strap molasses aroma once the rich brown bubbly head gives way a bit. The head from a second swirling has a much darker richer tone (once the initial head already faded). Its got a big velvety mouth-feel (as promised) and a beautifully complex palate of espresso, chocolate, roasty malt. I love this. it reminds me of the really thick part of monkey bread from the bottom of a dutch oven.

Julie says. Kind of smokey. And boozy. Very big. But it is very nice complex. Big black she gives a 4.0

Dark brown. Thick head. Has a sweet character, a slightly burnt and with a weird fruitiness. It’s simple, a bit flabby, tarry and with just a touch of booze late.

"nice full feel. a little weird sweetness in the flavor and quite complex...good mix of hops, dark fruit, coffee, chocolate, molasses. a little rough around the edges, but nice. would do well with age, or barreling. on tap, their best, but lacking for the style."
