You know the expression, "A Velvet Glove and an Iron Fist"? It was coined to refer to a regime that used a soft exterior to hide its punishingly unforgiving nature. This seems an apt description for our Velvet Glove. Its placid appearance and unparalleled smoothness hide the truth; this is one fiendishly strong stout. Rich, chocolaty espresso dominates the flavor profile, with a velvety smooth texture that will haunt your senses.

Pours almost black with a creamy tanned head - which was a quite big surprise since daje had claimed that this was an IPA.... :-) Smells of dark malts, roast, coffee and spice tendensies. Following up with heavy sweetness, coffee and cocoa, dark dark fruits, elements of toast and soil. Ends with a medium bitter finish. A descent imperial stout for sure!

750ml bottle - thanks mjs, VastActiv and the rest of the Hel crowd!
Sticky marmitey aroma. Very dark, small tight tan head. Taste full of rich roasts, but burnt and a bit ashy. Still malty though. Interesting wineyness in the finish. A bit harsh and aggressive, despite the obvious sweetness that ought to cover such things up.

Bottle shared. Pours an opaque black with a layer of toffee colored head. Aroma and taste are great, slightly dank, chocolates and coffee with roasted malts.

Pours a deep coffee brown with a creamy tan head, nice lacing. Nose of cocoa, roasted malts and a touch of coffee. Very creamy on the palate, best brew I’ve had from Iron Fist so far.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is black. Aroma is moderately to heavily malty (chocolate syrup, roasted grain), lightly hoppy (grapefruit), with notes of vanilla, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, syrupy/velvety texture, lively/soft carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Very simple aroma of the usual stout suspects: chocolate, vanilla, and some roast. Very sweet in the mouth; kinda decadent/rich mouthfeel but kinda syrupy too. Difficult to drink much of and not very interesting to nose, so...yeah, just mediocre.

75 cl bottle @ VastActiv, BBE 1.1.2016. Thanks mjs!
Aroma has soy sauce, chocolate and some salty licorice. Flavour has salty licorice, cocoa and some semi-dark chocolate. Too salty for me, but not bad still.

Pours pitch black with a bubbly head. Aroma of roasty malts, licorice, soy sauce, dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is roasty, dark chocolatey with notes of licorice, soy sauce and coffee. Finish is smooth, sweetish and roasty with loads of licorice. Pretty good, but nothing special.

On tap at Yardhouse San Diego. Pours very dark brown with a very thin tan head. Aroma is roasty with slight malt. Flavor is roasty no malt backbone at all. Very thin body. Watery. Disappointing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
