Wonderful nose of chocolate cake. Really reminds me of it. Some underlying residual sweetness, dark fruit notes as well as light roast. Pours black, nice meringue tan head, great retention. Flavors is sweet chocolate cake, dark fruit, light roast and a hint of bitterness. Rich, but balanced, sweet but not cloying. Really a solid enjoyable beer. Hides the 9%, full body, enjoyable stuff. Thanks Torry!

750 ml bottle. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stayed around a while. There’s also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, it smells like roasted malt, dark fruit, espresso, bittersweet chocolate and some burnt/charred malt. Taste is mostly just like the aroma but the flavors seem stronger in comparison, and there’s also the addition of some anise. There’s a nice balance between the sweet and bitter flavors in this stout. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s creamy with good carbonation. This is the first Iron Fist beer I’ve had (since I think they’re new to Ohio), and I thought it was good. I’ll have to pick up some of their other brews now. $9.99 a bottle.

Poured from a growler at bottle share at Ken Schmidt’s. Pours black with nice thick head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla and some coffee. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy. Taste is dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, nice sweetness masks the alcohol of this one. I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

Bottle at Craig’s. Inky black pour, almost no head save a thin beige ring. Big milk chocolate nose, liquorice, slight roast barley, soft mocha coffee. Palate is dark chocolate, rich liquorice, some toffee and a firm roasty backbone. Long warm roast finish, touch of liquorice, roasty bitterness. Light carb prickle but not too much. Lovely.

Poured pitch black with no head. Smelled of chocolate with a few notes of coffee. Initial taste was like a bite of dark chocolate. The mouthfeel was incredibly creamy. Would go great with some ice cream.

Rich molasses, tobacco, and chocolate nose. Black with a thin beige head. Full body. Tobacco and charred oak is dominant, rather dry. Low astringency. A touch of prune and alcohol peeks in briefly. Very nice.

How did I beat the SD Mafia in reviewing this one?
Thanks to my brother for getting one of the first growlers of this beer. Jet black with a brown head, this beer has a nice smooth mouth feel along with good chocolate, espresso and roasty flavors. It’s smooth to drink and nicely complex.

Bottle shared at a recent BA/RB tasting... Poured jet, oily black with a light brown head. Smooth drinking, nice palate. One may say "velvety." Big chocolate flavors and some roasted malts. Vanilla and a bittering finish.
