KingpinIPA (816), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 18, 2008 Hand bottled by TY! Copper/amber color. Smell of hops, honey, citrus peal, grapefruit, flowers, malt, caramel, pine and alcohol. I remember smelling this for my first time when I opened it. Tastes the same but a little bit lighter than the smell. Wonderful hop flavor. Thanks TY! egajdzis (2947), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2008 [Gravity Cask] Poured a dark amber color with a small white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of pine, floral hops, lots of amarillo, light toast, and caramel. Taste of pine, bitter grapefruit, toasted malts, toffee, citrus fruits, pine, and a very bitter finish... fair amount of alcohol detected. brewblackhole (1222), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA May 23, 2008 Aroma is that utter perfection of the finest qualities of the many different hops used in this brew, that sweet combination of citrus, pine, and slight sweet maltiness that us hopheads seek in our hop bombs, taste doesn’t quite capture all those components as well, the sweet caramel maltiness is more of a factor, all that hopping results in a tangy, mix of citrusy ,slightly slick hop juice, with different hop charateristics slightly clashing , and a pleasantly bitter finish. Top grade stuff, thanks again Kingpin, an excellent hand bottled alexsdad06 (618), Ohio, USA Jun 7, 2008 12 oz. handbottle courtesy of hopdog. Pours a clear amber orange colr with a smaller off white head. The aroma is in your face citrus hops, moderate sweetness, a touch of pine, and some floral notes. The flavor is still citrus, but more in the finish where it presents as grapefruit bitterness. Up front there is more caramel malt, pine, floral, and slight earthy combinations. I think they work well together. I don’t notice the alcohol at all. Full bodied with a sticky mouthfeel. This is a very solid beer and a great intro to Iron Hill for me. CaptainCougar (4624), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jun 10, 2008 Growler shared by kp: Pours a transparent bright copper orange with a wispy-lacing white head. Nice aroma of fresh grapefruity resiny hops and some sweet toasty caramel malty balance. Body starts fairly full and toasty caramely malty sweet with great balance of fresh assertive resiny piny and grapefruity hops. Finishes crisp, smooth and bittersweet, hiding the alcohol quite well. A very nice double IPA.
