One of the few German ales, this beer has a clean malt flavor and a low background bitterness.

A few weeks ago in Montgomeryville, I had the 2nd best sampler of my life at Iron Hill. Their 6 or 7 house beers were there, in addition to 7, yes 7, seasonals. This was one of the seasonals. Dark copper colr with generous white head. Aroma of malt, almonds, toffee. It had a marzeny quality coupled with a subtle brown ale quality. Smooth, crisp finish, and great complexity.

Pours clear light amber with a thin tan head. Aroma has light caramel and fruit...very faint. Flavor has caramel and toffee...bit of candied fruit. Mouthfeel is medium/full and silky with a candied fruit/earthy/roasty finish.

Tap at Maple Shade. Pours an attractive dark copper color with a two finger off white head. Aroma is of some bready notes, light caramel and a light grassy hop aroma. Taste is clean and very straightforward, well balanced with notes of caramel, toasty bread notes, and a grassy slightly bitter finish. Well rounded, easy drinking beer.

Poured a light brown color with a nice thin head that yielded decent lacing. The aroma was malty with a hop touch. The flavor was similar, with some nuts coming through in the base malt. Unfortunately, I had this one at the Newark IH and experienced some soap in the flavor. Idiots down here don’t know how to wash the glassware. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with just the right level of carbonation.
