Bottle at cgarvieuk’s. Pours a cloudy brown, with a very small ring of bubbles around the edge. Dark fruity nose, raisins, plums, with noticeable alcohol. Very sweet aroma. Taste follows this - really quite sweet. There’s caramel there, and similar dark fruits, but not as strongly as in the nose. Full bodied, small but pleasant carbonation, alcohol on the finish. A lingering sweetness too. Really quite nice.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of Pinball. Comes as "Old Tom" credited to Iron Hill, West Chester. Pours a cloudy amber with a tiny, rough off-white head. Lovely complex aroma of sweet spice and overripe fruit. Rich body, lowish carbonation, overripe fruit, a little coconut and a warming alcohol finish. Nice and rustic. 080512

The aroma is dried fruit, toasted malt. Not. Sweet or fruity as expected for an English barley wine. The appearance is amber, hazy, cream colored head. The flavor is fruit, caramel, toffee. The finish is sweet, bread, not bitter at all. Strange barley wine. Hopless, no bitterness. Not overly sweet. Enjoyable overall, though.

Bottle: Deep caramel, quite dark, slight ruby tint, large fizzy light beige head, spotty lacing, very light carbonation.   The color certainly looks very inviting!   Very slight sourness and oak on the nose, pale citrus and even softer malts are present.   Not much in the way of a hop nose... definitely not a west coast Barley Wine.   Sweet, yet somewhat sour, citrus character up front.   Soft notes of oak, and perhaps even unripened cherries.   Not as hefty in the malts either.   Interesting Barley Wine.   Fairly smooth, not heavy at all.   Lighter than most, a little bit more oakish and sour, albeit minor, than most other examples.   Lingering citrus like bitterness emerges after the finish.   Unfortunately body and mouthfeel are pretty average.   Not capturing me at all.   Decent beer, however doesnt seem to have enough malt character.   In my opinion not worth the $ the place on this one.   Again, fairly decent beer but it seems a bit too light.   I will give it this, the ABV is well hidden.   Doesn’t feel like 10% tho.   Anyways, enjoyable but not to the extent that I thought it was going to be based on the $ amount.   Thanks Steve for sending the bottles!!!

Quite an enjoyable little BW. Healthy presence of hops. A bit floral. Malt was a little thin for the beer, but overall enjoyable.

Tap at Lancaster location. Hazy amber beer with a thin head. Aroma is lightly sweet and a little bit honeyish as well. Toasty and toffeeish with some apricot/peach. Sweety and quite chewy. Fruity sweet and a little bit orangey. Sweet and a little bit herbal on the back. Fuggles/Goldings aroma. Quite a rich tasty barleywine in the UK-style.
