PWalk (334), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 15, 2008 You could smell the vanilla from this beer as soon as the wait staff put it down on my table. Some roast in the flavor along with bourbon. the bourbon actually doesn’t overpower as much as it does in some of IH’s other brews. Finish had some heat to it in my throat but was very smooth throughout. Good beer that made its way into my mug three times that evening.
The_Epeeist (979), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 28, 2008 25.4 oz bottle from North Wales, no label. Cellared a year and a few months. Dark brown with some incidental tan froth. Nose is bourbon, dark chocolate, molasses and oak. Smooth and milky with a sweet alcohol tang and trace carb. Rich chocolate base nicely compliments the bourbon; notes of vanilla. Dry dark roast to finish. A simple but beautifuly crafted barrel aged stout. DA (2473), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Sep 2, 2008 RBSG 2008. Big but mellow, flavors blend very well over a silky smooth palate. Hints of vanilla from the bourbon, caramel and chocolate finish it off. No heat from the bourbon, just smooth woody texture. Very nice beer. awaisanen (1161), Irvine, California, USA Aug 7, 2008 From a 750mL Bottle. Courtesy of Dickinsonbeer. Pours a dark brown color with a slender finger of creamy tan head. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, and chocolate nougat. There’s a mild booziness from the bourbon, but it most of the character it contributes is a transformation of the roast characters into a more mellow, toffee and chocolate combo. Medium full bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a creamy texture. Flavors of chocolate and toffee malts up front on the palate, softened by vanilla. Mid-palate more of the roast flavors come out, along with some charred prune. The woody-oak spiciness helps to dry up the finish a tad, lingering in the finish with a pleasant roastiness. Thanks, Paul! adrian910ss (1032), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 31, 2008 On nitro at the Wilmington location. Pours a dark thick cola black with a medium sized creamy light brown head. Aroma of bourbon and malts. Taste dominated by bourbon and malt. Excellent !!! GMCC2181 (422), Bear, Delaware, USA May 21, 2008 Nitro tap: Wlimington location, Dark in color with a small coffee colored head. Aroma was vanilla and bourbon. Taste was the same, bourbon, vanilla plus alcohol. It was pretty smooth but you could taste the alcohol. Good lacing, thick in texture overall a good beer but not as good as the regular IH RIS.
