For those of you who don’t know, this beer has a story behind it. I’m a bike nut and I’ve always wanted to name a beer after the Cannibal, partly because I think it’s a cool name for a beer and partly because he’s one of my heroes. The Cannibal by the way is Eddy Merckx, a Belgian who raced in the 60s and 70s and whom many consider the greatest cyclist in history. He’s kind of the the Pele or Babe Ruth of cycling. He was called the Cannibal because he was said to devour his opponents. Basically if you were in a race and Eddy Merckx showed up you were now racing for second place. So we made this strong Belgian beer in tribute to a strong Belgian rider. We also brewed it in celebration of the Tour De France and the bike club Iron Hill founded. This beer always goes on tap on the first day of the Tour and stays on tap through the Champs de L’elysee. We also save a keg that we break out every year at our thank you party for the organizers of the Iron Hill Twilight Criterium. So this beer is pretty steeped in cycling culture.

Hazy gold w/ lacy white head; aroma remiscient of Duvel, but lighter; flavor also reminiscent of Duvel, but a bit lighter; finishes lOng and soft, but light. I would humbly call this Duvel Light. Great but light!

Hazy light tan-amber. Not much head. Aroma has light apple, and vague pale malt...smells lighter than it is. Has a plasticy character, light esters, fair bit of alcohol in the finish.

Pale wheat, malt, hops, citrus and some spice. it’s slightly bitter with a clean palate. Refreshing fruits keep it balanced. Very nice. I hear it’s rarely brewed. I feel honored to have tried it.

Bottle at the Ardmore Iron Hill. Apparently I got the last bottle in the entire system.... Anyway, pours a light straw golden with lots of foamy white head and bubbles. Spicy Belgian aroma. Mouthfeel is light and tingly... extremely dry too. Taste is full on Belgian fruit. Very Belgian, just so much Belgian flavors... you hopefully know what I mean. Dry and tangy with some clementine flavors. Good beer. But it was almost $20 a bottle. I know I shouldn’t buy it and then complain about the price. But the beer came highly recommended to me by a friend who used to work at IH. Anyway, IH can kiss my ass as I won’t be shelling out that kind of dough for an OK to good beer. Kiss it, just go ahead. And all their food is overpriced too.

750ml c&c bottle that me and Dan P. purchased for JohnGonk at the Maple Shade brewpub several months ago. Thanks for holding it to share John! Poured a hazy light orange color with a small foamy white head. Good beer, but not much to it. Taste and aroma of orange, candied sugar, light bready malt, and grass.

on tap at Maple Shade - not bad. Belgiany and slightly fruity. Cool looking bottle.

Tap at Maple Shade. Clear golden with a short bright white head. Nose is a sledgehammer of lemon, citrus, and yeast, more of the same in the mouth, de-soured lemon warheads in the distance with cherry and blackcurrant Skittles, just fantastic fruity accents, even a bit tropical. Pleasant phenols of bubblegum and clove (which really don’t ever seem to be found together), light black pepper, a little gummy, awesome rich mouthfeel and medium full body. Clean and complex.

Aroma - yeasty Belgian farmhouse funk Appearance - orange yellow color; liquid is hazed; head about 1 1/4" and white Taste - has white fleshed fruit esters, beefy Belgian yeast, coriander, and additional spice Palate - body is light; texture is on the thin side and champagne like; carbonate is average; finish is dry and full of Belgian yeast and boozy alcohol

Aroma is floral and yeasty. Very perfumesque. Pours sparkly golden like champagne. Tastes very bready with nice floral notes and a metallic biscuit finish. Not the best but palatable.
