An excellent combo of a fruit beer with an abbey dubbel-style! This beer is not for the faint of heart, because it’s powerful and strong. The beer poured a murky, dark copper color. It had a small off-white head, but laced nicely around the glass. The aroma included cherries, oak and bourbon. I tasted a ton of cherries, bourbon, apple cider, rye and roasted malt. I got a nice alcohol note in the finish.

Pours an opaque pink/amber color with a thin white head. Aroma has some tart sour cherry and oaky funk...slightly vinous. Flavor is tart and fruity with cherry notes, a bit of plum, and a touch of lemony citrus...nice earthy dry oak. Mouthfeel is light with a slight bubbly burn...finish is oaky and dry with notable sour cherry.

Sweet and cherry nose with light caramel and dark fruit. The taste is lightly sour with cherry that’s a bit medicinal. Some aspirin on the finish.

On tap at the Wilmington location. Shared a nice glass with willblake. Poured a very dark stout like beer, no visible carbonation. Cherry and other berries were notable. Tasted as if it were aged in an oak barrel. Light bodied, this texture and fizzy carbonation. Little taste lingered at the astringent finish.

20100220 Tap at Wilmington. This was an unexpected bonus of the visit. Lots of cherry on the nose with some woody balsamic notes. Thin bodied, light prickly fizz. Dusty cellar wood flavors with stellar interplay between oak and cherry astringency. Finishes dry and quick with only mild acetic bite lingering. Some slight pedio.

Pours a cloudy amber color with just a hint of cherry smell. Very smooth on the palate and nice flavor. One of my favorites at Iron Hill.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JAXSON (480) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 20, 2010
Poured a still-looking maroon. Pretty malty and round nose, a bit of red wine, cherries, some other red berries. Not really sour, a bit hefty and round, with a slightly funky wine barrel presence. Spritzy enough in the mouth. Interesting and pretty good, but a chore to drink a whole glass. I don’t know if this is the batch that won silver at GABF, but I was a bit let down. I think a stronger pour would have done this some good to open it up.
