Miver (376), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 6, 2008 Lancaster. Poured brown with a medium beige head. Aroma has hints of piney hops present. Taste is a bit nutty, smoked, caramel malt, and solid piney hops. Not bad for a brown ale. axilla (942), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 5, 2008 Lancaster. Poured a darker brown color body with an avg off white head. Aroma is somewhat smokey with motes of citrus and very subtle pine. Flavors are kind of an earthy hop taste with some sweet smoke, nuts, and a little cookie in the finish. I also detect the slightest bit of chocolate. beachbum25 (595), Powellville, Maryland, USA Mar 2, 2008 On tap @ Newark-Poured a deep brown/mahogany color w/a moderate tan head & good lacing. Deep, woodsy aroma. Had a rich, full, deep, earthy, smokey flavor w/ traces of peat, caramel, roasted nuts, & molasis. Kind of reminded you of a Tawny Port or even a Smoked Brew. This was quite a surprise, had a lot more flavor than I was expecting; I sometimes find Brown Ales to be kind of boring, but that certainly wasn’t the case here. GMCC2181 (344), Bear, Delaware, USA Feb 28, 2008 On tap at Newark; Weak caramel smell. Nice head and dark coloring. Not much flavor except some malt. Nothing to really write about.... kseecs16 (513), Westmont, Illinois, USA Nov 9, 2007 Draught at the pub. Reddish brown in color with a thick light tan head, nice lacing. Slightly malty aroma, mild with hops not particularly evident. Unique flavor. Pine-sol hops blend oddly with a nutty malt resulting in something a bit like a lemon cookie on your tongue. Its not bad. Minimal lingering flavors, medium bodied.
