3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 egajdzis (4612) - Spring Mount, USA - DEC 30, 2003
UPDATED: MAY 17, 2008 Draft Media 04 Perfumey. medicinal aroma. Taste was sweet and fruity, with very low bittering hops. Hops do not have the impact an IIPA should have. Cask Newark 04 The most flavorful yet, shows some signs of life, but the hops are still way too subdued for an Imperial. Light fruitiness.

Thanks to a great PA trader that hooked me up with a growler of an unbelievable "under the radar" beer.
A - pours a honey color with 2 fingers of off white head.
S - Floral hops, citrus, pine, malt, and some alcohol. A very big hop nose.
T - All pine at first, but once it warms you get a lot of mango and pineapple. The light caramel malt provides enough balance to really show the hops off while still making it very drinkable.
M/D - Oily mouthfeel with spot on carbonation for a 10%+ DIPA. So easy to drink it’s dangerous.
An absolutely great growler that still had good carbonation 24hrs after it was opened. My girlfriend even drank a pint and she is not a fan of IPAs or DIPAs.

In short: Another superb archetypical piney/fruity amber American IPA
How: Growler shared during the RSBG 2011 bus trip (called Iron Hill Kryptonite Double IPA)
The look: Slightly cloudy amber body topped by a medium off-white head with medium retention
In long: The hoppy nose is mostly pine-tree with a side of citrus fruits. Malt bill has fresh crunchy lightly toasted cereals with a moderate sweetness. Rather thick body. The pine-tree and citrus fruits hops provide an adequate balance, this is not a hop-bomb which is a good thing because the cereals were pretty damn nice. Once again, nothing new or original about this beer but I just can’t get enough of very well made American IPAs. This beer is yet another reason why I drink too much. You know you are drinking too much beer when you start getting heartburns, high blood pressure and life seems to always be a lot of fun.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 pineypower (1827) - Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA - JUL 15, 2011
Growler from Maple Shade. Pours out an attractive copper color with a nice white head. Aroma is of pine, citrus and light cat piss, and maybe a few notes of malt. Taste is complex, nice juicy citrusy hops, pine, light fruit, light grainy malt notes and slight alcohol. Really tasty IIPA.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 robiannelli (468) - West Deptford, New Jersey, USA - JUL 9, 2011
Dubbed Kryptonite, it was sampled on tap in NJ Iron Hill. Poured a healthy amber with a sticky white head. Aromas of fruit and tropical fruit, also carmels, toffee and a sweet floral piney notes. Flavor is very layered as well comes on bitter with pine and fruit rind upfront then the sweetness comes out with toffees carmels and slight fruityness from the hops. Body is full with a good lasting finish lots of alcohol warmth but no alcohol flavor. Very good beer

Draft during the RBSG 2011 bus tour. Poured a good looking clear amber/orange with a smaller white head. Aroma of dry citrus rind, cat piss, dry pine, and slight sweeter hop syrup notes. Palate is nice as there is no alcohol heat at all and it’s smooth as hell, medium to fuller bodied with softer carbonation and a slightly bitter finish with a slight lingering finish. Flavor of pine, yellow grapefruit pulp, cat box and hint of orange rind. Awesome stuff.

Big thanks to Chris, Alex, Jason for sharing this with me. Let’s see what I can remember. Hazy dark pour, not too much head but it’s a taster so whatever. Aroma was super hoppy with hints of citrus. Flavor was somewhat of tie between the hops and malts, but regardless it was a real treat.
