3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 WISEGUY572 (1373) - Philadelphia, USA - MAR 23, 2003
Tastes more like a good IPA than an American pale. Strong malty backbone, plenty of hops, not as overwhelmingly grapefruit as a Stone or as pine and lemon as a Victory. Good reddish gold appearance. Good beer.

Tap at Iron Hill North Wales, PA. Wow - this is the obligatory pale ale at a chain brew pub, but it’s good! Big citrus and caramel nose and taste. Pours a rich clear gold with a clingy white head. I’m impressed.

I actually really enjoyed it. I’m not much of a lager fan but this was a totally different animal. Rich, malt, and sweet. It had a kick to it. I also enjoyed a pint of their Belgian Wit. That was also pretty damn good. But if you know me well, you know I had to talk something home. This is where the Ironbound Ale came in. I took a look at Beer Advocate for something that wasn’t to huge and I came up with buying a growler of this APA.
Ironbound Ale pours a cloudy orange color. A huge head is poured with great lacing and retention. Smell is really nice and clean. A nice hop kick. Not IPA huge but really nice for an APA. Citrus and floral aromas with a nice caramel malt background.
Bottom line is this is one of the best American Pale Ales I’ve ever had. Taste is fresh, crisp, and clean. Nice amount of caramel and toasted malt. Mixed in with the fresh citrus hops and you have a real winner here. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, crisp, and goes down so easy

Draft @ brewpub. Pours clear copper with thin off-white head; great lacing. Aroma is hoppy with notes of citrus fruits. Initial flavor is floral hops with a grapefruit finish. Citrus flavors make the beer very refreshing, but overall its nothing memorable.

Draft. Clear copper in color with a two-finger head. The aroma is nice and hoppy with some significant hops, mainly citrusy. The flavor has a caramel and pale malt base with citrusy and somewhat catty hops. Medium-light bodied with average carbonation. Well, they said, "You won’t be disappointed." in the description, but sorry guys... Maybe it was a bad keg or something.
