[Hill Farmstead After-party] Hazy golden color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of apple brandy, vanilla, wood, citrus, and toast. Taste of sweeter honey, light pepper, citrus fruits, earthy yeast, apple, vanilla, and a dry, woody finish.

Tap at Hill Farmstead Pre-Party Friday night. Pours a slight hazed light golden yellow with a nice foamy lasting white head. Aroma is big in the apple brandy dept (but not in quite a bad way as some other beers aged in these barrels can get), lots of apple brandy without much head, grassy, and green apple tartness along with a definite large amount of oak woodiness which definitely overshadows almost everything else in the aroma- light phenols and grass is about it. Flavor is a bit more interesting- some light grassy notes, good fresh bready malts, medium to heavy wood, oak, apple brandy, apple skins, and a mostly clean and somewhat dry finish. Strange beer, but it definitely showcases the apple brandy barrel in a mostly good way but it is a bit much for a saison.

Pouring at the opening of Hill Farmstead courtesy of Jean. Pours a hazy gold with a thick white head. Light brandy and apple notes, big musky yeast character. Medium bodied, smooth. Nice apple notes and a really nice balance of wood and saison musk. Little sweetness and some nice musk on the finish.
