UPDATED: DEC 30, 2011 On cask at the Newark location as nut brown ale. The pour was deep brown with a nice off-white 1cm head, lacing splotchy. The aroma was chocolate malts, nuts, cellar notes. The flavor followed, a tad on the sticky side (reminded me of rogue’s hazlenut brown) but the nuts were prominent enough to make it pretty good. Faint roast at the back of the tongue. Mouthfeel was full and slightly sticky. More on the exciting side than many a brown ale. Re-rated Dec 11, bad Santa brown... Numbers stand.... Good stuff, but just a brown ale.

Interesting twist on a brown ale, more hoppy than any other brown ale I can remember, malty as well, almost like a thick IPA, spices also present. Wasn’t really getting that nutty coffee flavor like most browns. All in all a good beer, just didn’t taste much like a brown ale to me.

On tap at Iron Hill Newark: Bad Santa Brown Ale: Pours a brownish red color, decent one finger size head. Smells nutty and malty. Taste is pretty much the same. Nice malt base, with some sugar, roasted nuts and hint of spices. Medium body. Overall: Enjoyable brown ale

20100104 Tap at Newark location. The beer I had was Bad Santa Brown Ale which had the following description... OG: 1.065 Color: 16 IBU: 25 Alc by Vol: 6.0% English style Brown Ale, medium-bodied and deep brown in color. It has a slight roasty/nutty malt flavor and aroma with a well balanced dry finish... so it’s obviously not this 4.7% Nut Brown Ale, but the two are aliased and I don’t think I care enough to deal with sending feedback that may or may not ever get read or addressed, or maybe determined that the new entry is still unwarranted. I don’t get to entering these things often enough as it is. So I’ll just leave this here. Super malty but not overly sweet. I was all set to hate this one, but I foudn it surprisingly well done. Reminds me of a less sweet DFH Raison d’Etre. Some bubblegum and vanilla notes. Warming, nutty, and nice.

Draught at Phoenixville BrewPub: Sweet aroma of malts, nuts, brown sugar, light cocoa, dried leaves, and slight molasses. Poured amber/brown in color with a large, rocky, dense, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Good lacing. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of nuts, dry leaves, light brown sugar, light chocolate, and malts. Medium body. Slightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, nut, and dry leaf finish. Very nutty.

On nitro at North Wales. Chestnut brown color with a slightly off-white head. Aroma of nuts, roast, caramel, and chocolate with a matching flavor ( lots of nut on the back end).

Draft at P-vile, and I cannot believe I never had this before. Pours deep brown, a bit hazy, with off-khaki head and clingy lacing. Nose is roasty caramel malt, nuts, mild hops. Tastes malty, rich, very nutty. I noted hazelnut and pistachio notes, and the palate is very wel balanced, very smooth, and is another great example of one of my favorite styles from one of my favorite brewers. I growlered this one.

[Cask at North Wales] Poured a lightly hazy, brown amber color with a medium sized, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, toffee, buttery malts, light pine, nuts, and roast. Taste of nuts, caramel malts, vanilla, toffee, some pine, and citrus, with a semi-sweet finish.

On tap at Newark brewery. Poured brown color with a nice white cap.Nice lacing also.Dark malts make up the majority of this fine brew with some bitterness. Chocolate malts in there also.Very smooth beer and easy to drink.

Dark copper color with a medium off-white head. Toasty caramel malt taste with some citrus/floral hops. Flavor is a nice malty mix of caramel, grains, and citrus-grass hop flavor. Smooth and tasty. Nice job with the name as well.
