stefanje (936), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jun 5, 2009 Bottle at Toncatchers. Thanks to Wee Heavy for bringing this. Brown pour with a big off-white head. The aroma was big with sweet malts and some wood. Thew flavor was complex with layered oak, sweet dark fruits, caramel malts and a small taste of hops. The mouthfeel was smooth and creamy. The finish long and sweet. Overall: I liked it. Very nice quad. WeeHeavySD (2932), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jun 3, 2009 99th rating of this beer, via trade with gmc, thanks so much dude! Shared at Toncatcher’s recent tasting. Pours rich brown with a tan ring. Nose is sweet, malty, nice. Taste is sweet malty and quite rich, nice quad. Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Jun 2, 2009 Toncatchers tasting 2. Brown sugar and sharp malt jump out on the nose. Vanilla smoothness too. I got caramel and bubblegum out of the taste. Unfortunately I was not impressed. Boring. Sorry guys. Maybe other bottles were better? JK (2943), Richfield, Minnesota, USA May 4, 2009 Sweet with maple syrup. Lots of yeast in the aroma and flavor, but it doesn’t seem like a Belgian strain, and this doesn’t make me think of a Belgian beer. A little wood, but I don’t taste the wine. The description sounds like an awesome idea, but for some reason it seems like it didn’t work out. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Mar 9, 2009 Bottle from swolf3 a while back, thanks again Mr Wolf ! Clear mahogany with a tan head. Very good woody oak aromas with smoked nuts. Medium body. Sweet toasted spicy caramel Quad flavors with vanilla and wood. Warming booziness to finish. NIce fireside sipper. tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Mar 2, 2009 750 mL bottle shared by CharlesDarwin. Pours dark purplish brown with a very small beige head. The aroma is rum and raisins, some spicy notes, vanilla, oak, and a surprisingly strong vinous character. The flavor is sweet rum and brown sugar, red wine, cinnamon, and dark fruits. The finish is clean and sweet and leaves a sugary aftertaste. Surprisingly vinous throughout. After a few sips I kind of warmed up to it, but it’s still a tad too sweet for my general tastes. CharlesDarwin (1821), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Feb 26, 2009 750mL Bottle. Cranberry, raisins, and cork. Spicy yeast notes, mingle with some exotic spice and light bourbon. Wet
caramely vinous raisins. Lots of vinous oak tannin character. Light malt tang. Pours with some
viscosity, red-purple-brown, clearish. Malt tang merges with a spice mix and some pie character. Oily,
wet-wine character. Sugary. Alcohol lays down real well and lets a lot of sugar and spice flow forth.
Yeast runs through. I find this somewhat mediocre. A lot of residuals sugars, with an overbearing hand of
spiciness. Wet barrel character. Just not getting all that excited about this. Muddled and a little messy. badgerben (3584), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Jan 30, 2009 MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering, January 10, 2009. Courtesy of DalzAles. Dark brown color with a medium head. Strong brown sugar aroma. Big, powerful malt flavor. Heavy on the sugar. Quite herbaly, like Rochefort 10. Yeasty. Yummy.
