holdenn (1138), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 8, 2008 750 ml bottle ’05 vintage. Thanks to drewbeerme for sharing this. Pours a clear amber color with a creamy beige head. Abundantly sweet and oxidized nose. Brown sugar, lots of oxidized malts, lemons, sweet spices, dough, caramel, raisins, and grassy hops. Sweet oxidized malt flavors. Cherries, plums, brown sugar, charred malts, dough, biscuit, and caramels. Piney and grassy hops in the finish. With this much oxidation, I could see how people wouldn’t be into it. But I thought the oxidized malts worked really well with the other notes. Solid beer.
GMCC2181 (344), Bear, Delaware, USA Aug 13, 2008 750ml Bottle courtesy of me! 2005 vintage. Cork popped off, which is always a good sign. Color was ruby brown, and a small head that faded quickly. Aroma was fruity. Taste better then it smells. Good balance between malt and sweet fruits and spices. No bitterness to it. Texture was average, same as the carbonation level. I am not to familiar with "old ales" so I was not expecting much, imo...its just an average session beer. drewbeerme (1782), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 1, 2008 750ml bottle. 2005 vintage. thanks to eclectic for this wonderful extra. pours chestnut reddish brown with creamy tan head. aroma is doughy, nutty, oxidized malt, hints of chocolate. flavor is doughy, nutty, chocolate, slightly and nicely oxidized. full mouth feel, smooth body. pretty nice aged brew. not sure it could handle much more age. bu11zeye (3628), Frisco, Texas, USA Jun 26, 2008 (750ml bottle, 2005 vintage) Pours a hazy brown with medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, raisins, plum, sulfur, and caramel. Flavor of raisins, toffee, caramel malt, and toasted bread. dyetube (373), Dallas, Texas, USA Jun 12, 2008 DFW Tasting 6/8/08 Thanks to Bu11zeye for sharing! This beer poured an amber color with a thin head. Not too much to say about this one. It was o.k. but not great. Cheers!
