This flemish was really not up to speed. A sweet cherry flavor with a hint of grape. A brown apperance with almost no head. They said they were having issues with the keg? I dont know. It was ok I guess.

On tap at Wilmington as part of their Belgian Beer Fest (brewed at the West Chester location). Almost didn’t get a chance to try this one. They were having problems tapping this one. On my way out, some one said it was ready, so I grabbed one. My glass looked a lot different than desurfer’s glass (they were probably poured 5 minutes apart). Poured a dark brown color with a small off white head. Aromas of leather, wood, and smoke. Tastes of stronger wood. Thinner body.

Pours a cloudy reddish/brown with no head. Hopdogs sample was much more carbonated; apparently they were having tap issues. There’s a pronounced smoky, peaty aroma, very woody (oaky) with notes of vanilla bean as well. Flavor is very woody, almost like chewing on a stick. It’s rauchbier-ish; smoky and tootsie-roll chocolatey, with other hints of toffee and caramel. Palate is smooth with little carbonation. Interesting, but I question the Flemish Sour categorization. Probably should simply be called a Belgian Ale.

Ommegang fest. Nice brown ale with a thick off-white head. Light caramel taste with lactic notes. Sour brown sugar . Light bodied but balanced.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2005 Poured a brownish red color with a small off white head and nice lacing on the glass. Musty cobwebs, mildy fruity, and a sweet malt aroma. Taste was subtle cherry, lots of sweet malts, and vanilla oak. All these were pronounced at room temperature. Overall I like a Flemish sour to be alot more sour.

On tap @ Ommegang. Brown and cloudy in color with a tan head. Caramel flavors. Malty. Interesting beer.

Tap at Cooperstown. Brown and cloudy, tan head. Carmel and caroway seed aroma and flavor. Malty. Rather interesting, but not sure what they are trying to accomplish with this.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2004 Very slight tart-fruit aroma--bananas and cherries, awful chalky texture the whole way through. Nutty notes, the finish is watery. WTF is this supposed to be? Whatever it is, it fails......(Firkenteenth version)
