iron hill west chester Pours a very dark brown with a very thin head that does leave moderate lacing. The aroma is a pleasant chocolatey goodness with a touch of roastiness blended in. The taste is a heavy coffee flavor with a hint of chocolate. It finishes slightly bitter. It’s pretty nice in flavor compared to most porters. Not bad at all

I’m having a hard time remembering this beer, since it’s been a few years, but I do remember it having a pretty robust flavor and a rich color. I also remember enjoying it, so that’s good too.

On tap at the Maple Shade brewpub. A brown, almost clear beer topped by a light beige head. The aroma has coffee, chocolate and roasted malts, quite balanced. There’s some bitterness and sweetness in the flavor, but it’s mostly roasted malts giving you chocolate and coffee. Smooth, dry and full to medium bodied and with a lasting finish. A nice beer, but more a brown ale than a porter I think. 150623

Well this is an impressive porter from an impressive northeast USA brew-pub chain that sadly does not seem to be expanding in the direction of South Carolina. For a recent lunch outing I had a very positive visit to Iron Hill; along with delicious food, I enjoyed this, their standard line-up porter. Poured a solid ruby brown color, good frothy head. Smelled strong and fresh of coffee and earthy hops, taste was likewise a well balanced tasty porter stronger on the coffee side of the porter spectrum, while featuring a malty body and subtle bitter hops. Some chocolate malt in the background. Finished clean and smooth, although the mouthfeel struck me as thinner and weak, but very drinkable. Only real disappointment was that this was the only beer I got to sample at Iron Hill, I hope to visit again and try more!
