Beerlando (1135), Orlando, Florida, USA May 9, 2008 Courtesy boboski. Pours a muddy looking sienna brown color with a small, foamy, off-white head. Thin, jagged lines of lacing are scatterred about the glass. The nose is comprised of fairly neutral, lightly caramelized malts that allow a distinct beechwood smoke to take top billing. There is a light saltiness, sort of like ocean air, as well as an underlying tannic fruitiness, reminiscent of apple skins. Flavors are well integrated, with the smoke showing at just the right level of intensity to compliment the subtle, caramelized, fruity sweetness. Light to medium bodied, smooth, and ridiculously drinkable. Finishes on the dry side. Refreshing. This served as a perfect compliment to the sushi I was eating at the time, playing on the smoky saltiness of the soy sauce in particular. Just a very nice, quaffable rauch. Good stuff. Storm (2677), Amager, Denmark Mar 10, 2008 Blind tasting at Papsoe. Hazy amber colour wirh a white head. Nice aroma of smoke, malt and caramel. Flavour of malt, caramel and hints of smoke. Ends up refreshing with notes of smoke and without being too much. Thomas_E (4814), Copenhagen, Denmark Dec 19, 2007 Amber colour with a white head. Malty, light fruity sweet aroma with hints of smoke. Smoky, light sweet flavor with fruity notes. Dry and smoky finish. The_Epeeist (872), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 4, 2007 25.4 oz bottle. Clear orange brown with a slim putty head. Lacy arcs. Nose is fairly mild; charred wood more than smoke. Apple and brown sugar underneath. Smoke even less apparent in the taste except for some lingering oiliness. Sharp carb dominates but body holds up well. Woody apple juice with light lemon hops. A sessionable Rauch or great with food. nolankowal (814), Dublin, Ohio, USA Nov 21, 2007 Cbus 8, bottle shared by moejuck. Orange pour with a light tan head. Aroma of bacon fat, smoke, and more pork. Flavor of smoked meats and a bit of sweet malt. Light body, smoky/dry with a dry finish.
