The beer pours to a dark black body with a nice tall really foamy dark brown head. The aroma is rich with roasty chocolate that comes off as lightly soapy. The flavor is richly chocolatey with lots of charred roasty malts. Nicely charred black malts. Complex. The palate is richly full bodied. Quite unique for an imperial stout. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 28, 2006 Darker than their porter w. a molasses underpinning. Deep aroma is hard to peel apart to discern. This brew packs a wallop, but the alcohol is well integrated. Sweet roastiness and seductive. This beer can knock you out. zathrus13 (1296), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA

Update: Draft. Awesome aroma. Flavor is very well balanced with a chocolate flavor. Enjoyable. The draft really makes the difference. BückDich (4832), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2006 Black, brown, tan head. Nice coffee roast note, some vegetal oat and chocolate. Charred peach. The flavor is nice, plenty of sweet creamy malt and a bit of hops. Finishes rooty, lots of melas and roast. Impressive. A touch of hops blend on the brutal coffee and roasted body. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 30, 2006 Pours black with only minimla head. Last year vintage purchased at the brewpub, and Expensive. Roasty malty aroma. First sip is good balance of roast and malt, but a few more gulps finds it satisfying though not complex. More medium mouthfeel, than the thickness expected. Above average carbonation.A good drink but only an average candidate in this style.
