750ml bottle, I’ve been sitting on this one for a while now. Pours black, an aggressive pour yields a small, creamy, light brown head that leaves some lace. Smells dark and sweet and toasty malty, very nice, not sickly malty sweet. Tastes roasty malty, slight coffee, slight semi-sweet chocolate flavors. Very tasty, semi-dry roasty malt flavors. A bit of alcohol flavor as well. Full bodu, only semi-thick though, nice mellow, smooth carbonation.

This 2+ year old vintage 750mL comes courtesy of BeerAdvocate’s smell-ity (something like that). Thanks buddy. Pours deep dark with thin tan head. The aroma is a mix of dark roasted malts, rich dark chocolate, burnt malts and sweet molasses. Nice inviting nose. The taste is sweet and roasty with a burnt malt backbone. Intertwined in there is rich sticky chocolate. Wow, rich, roasty, burnt, sweet and decadent. Tremendous balance too.

Appearance: Pours a black body topped by a full, bubbly, khaki-colored head. Smell: Subtle aroma of roasty dark malts with notes of baker’s chocolate, stale licorice, burnt breadcrusts, and booze. Taste: Frothy, melted milk chocolate followed by a zip of caramel sweetness. Hints of breadcrusts, roast, and licorice. Mild, roasty, earthy bitterness. Finishes with a taste of chilled hot chocolate made with at least twice the recommended amount of cocoa powder. Mouthfeel: Full-bodied. Mild carbonation. Drinkability: Very tasty RIS. Oh, I was crazy about it.

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, smoke, and ash. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium full mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and well hidden alcohol. Good

750ml bottle. Pours deep dark black, off-white head. Aroma of roasted barley malt, hints of coffee, chocolate, and even some bourbon notes. Flavors of roast, light coffee. Sharp coffee bitterness lingers on the palate. Flavors of licorice, anise as well. Very easy to enjoy along with the heavy body.

From the Wilmington location. Pours a deep brown/black color with above average head, and above average lacing and carbonation. Smells of coffee, chocolate and deep roasted malts…like a RIS should. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, tobacco, caramel, roasted malts. Has complexity but not as complex as a Dark Lord or a Abyss. Still a great beer...close to World Class. Finishes well. Very NICE!

750ml bottle from a trade from DLD07.... pours a dark brown, almost black pour with a thin tannish forming head that is quick to dissipate.... a mostly chocolate nose with a little bitter roast component..... bitter chocolate essence in the flavor with some added roastiness. a little boozy in the finish.
