4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
[At GABF 2004] A dark red-brown beer with a small disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with loads of chocolate notes. The flavor is also sweet with strong notes of bitter chocolate, leading to a dry end, and it’s got a powerful body.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUN 17, 2007 (Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of sk8viking. Black and opaque with a small, creamy, light brown head. Aroma of vanilla, dried fruit and roasted malt. Very full and rich body, sweet, smooth and a little flat. Lots of vanilla and dried fruit and roasted malts. Soft finish with a subdued bitterness. Very well balanced. This is excellent stuff. 160607
(Hand bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of Kramer 17801. Black and almost opaque - there’s a vague reddish hue - with a light brown head. Sweetish aroma of burned malt and some licorice. Very full-bodied with lots of roasted malt, a lightly burned edge but otherwise dominated by sweet, English licorice and some whiffs of coffee. Very subdued bitterness. 8/3/8/3/16=3.8 090407

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
1st March 2010
Opaque black beer. Light palate for a RIS, a little dry, quite soft and airy. Not roasty or bitter but a ton of dark malt. Mild lactose. Subtle hint of dark fruits. Mild chocolate and coffee in the finish. A nice RIS but for me doesn’t reach that luxuriant feel and flavour of the best. A bit nit picky because this is a good beer!

Medium sweet flavor with mild roast, some dark fruits, burnt earth, charred grains, raisins. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish with lots of char character, ash, baking cocoa, burnt marshmallow, earth, grains. Pretty well balanced overall.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, 75cl corked. It’s a more or less black one, topped by a dense, beige head. Chocolate, roasted malts, caramel notes, some coffee hints, licorice notes and a hint of soy sauce. Really nice flavor with some alcohol warmth in addition to chocolate, coffee and caramel. Bitterness towards the end, both of the hoppy and the roasted malt kind. Full body, with a soft carbonation and a nice warming feeling. A quite wonderful one, wouldn’t mind drinking more of this. 121109
