Lots of chocolate and a lvery light hop presence are detectable in the nose. Stout-like appearance. Full palate lies under full chocolate falvors with plenty of roasted malt. Lots of flavor, and a great palate makes for a realy good stout.

I know I’m going to be a dissenter on this one. Poured dark brown with ruby highlites with an off-white head (looks more like a porter). Aroma of whiskey, molasses, and, oddly enough, cigarette smoke. Taste is cheap whiskey, stale coffee grounds, and a bit of old dark chocolate. Finishes dry and astringently bitter. Not sure what happened with this one, but I wasn’t all that impressed.

May 2005 - I wasn’t as thrilled with this as the other few reviews. Poured dark, dark brown (just about black) with a small head that dissipated quickly and some lacing. Maybe it was my allergies, but I didn’t smell much or taste the subleties listed in other reviews. Taste was dark roasted malt and a strong alcohol taste that wasn’t all that well masked. Bitter/sour...I dunno, I just wasn’t crazy about it...worth a try once, but probably won’t go back to it again. Update Jan. 2009 - Roasty and silky smooth with notes of chocolate. Not wow’ing or overly complex, but still pretty good.

Bottle shared at the hellbilly holiday tasting. Deep black body with a small creamy tan head. Dark roasted malt and coffee, ripe fruit and chocolate in the aroma. Flavor is the same with some warming alcohol and a hint of hops on the finish. Smooth and creamy on the palate. Very nice.

750ml bottle, I’ve been sitting on this one for a while now. Pours black, an aggressive pour yields a small, creamy, light brown head that leaves some lace. Smells dark and sweet and toasty malty, very nice, not sickly malty sweet. Tastes roasty malty, slight coffee, slight semi-sweet chocolate flavors. Very tasty, semi-dry roasty malt flavors. A bit of alcohol flavor as well. Full bodu, only semi-thick though, nice mellow, smooth carbonation.

Bottle shared by Sparky27...THANKS ERIC!!! Ebony color doesn’t allow a shred of light to pass through and the 1/4 inch khaki head spotted the inside of the glass. This one has a ton of dark fruit, chocolate, and brown sugar in the nose but also has a barrel quality to it. Are you sure there isn’t any bourbon in there??? Burnt caramel, oak, and noticeable alcohol accompany cocoa and coffee. Oil slick in the mouth...tasty!!!

Tap at Capone’s. Pours out black with a small lacing off white head. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate and some light bourbon notes. Complex taste with a nice smooth mouthfeel, roasted malt, baker’s chocolate, vanilla, oak and bourbon. No real notes of any alcohol and was very drinkable and smooth. Well done
