This would be a 5.0 w/ a little more chocolate malt and a little more alcohol. Reminds me of Memphistopoles w/out that crazy raisin sweetness. A little drier finish than most imp stouts. Very good. I have never has a bad Iron Hill brew. scoobyluv (486), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

Great aroma of biscuity and roasted malt with chocolate. Excellent flavor of biscuity and roasted malt with chocolate and a bitter finish. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Pours almost opaque black, the deepest ruby available, with a frothy mocha head that leaves a thin cap with trace soapy lace. Some vinous and roasted chocolate fills the bouquet well. A very, very nice complex sweet and roasted chocolate flavor predominates the pull. The finish continues the roast, with low bitters and a hint of alcoholic astringency. Full-bodied, the mouthfeel contains soft carbonation levels, and really adds to the overall ambiance of the brew. Sweet, rich (but not chewy) and roasted, a wonderfully malted beer that I’m very happy to have sampled. Papsoe (15178), Frederiksberg, Denmark

(Hand bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of Kramer 17801. Black and almost opaque - there’s a vague reddish hue - with a light brown head. Sweetish aroma of burned malt and some licorice. Very full-bodied with lots of roasted malt, a lightly burned edge but otherwise dominated by sweet, English licorice and some whiffs of coffee. Very subdued bitterness. 8/3/8/3/16=3.8 090407 puzzl (2661), New York, New York, USA

Rich, roasty aroma with assertive peanut/peanut brittle notes. Super rich flavor with a perfectly smooth palate, complex roasty chocolate and light, gentle sugars. Really balanaced and gentle, especially considering it’s moderate ABV, at least for the style. Fantastic.
