Oh man.. was it good. Great apperance, excellent taste. Like your typical russian imperial, but a little more of a fruity/complex taste than expected. Great one.

APPEARANCE - total black out in my glass. Beigh colored head that sticks around and great lacing.
NOSE - light scents, but not overly interesting.
FLAVOR - stout at the front, strong hop bitterness at the end. Not substantially roasty or deep flavors.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cocoa in the aroma, a bit of alcohol venting. Near black color, opaque, large tan-colored head. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee; deep, rich maltiness, tobacco, fine alcohol syrup in the finish with a good dose of resin/pine hops and moderate bitterness. Medium full, smooth and slick texture. Very good hoppy Imperial Stout. Wish there was more to the aroma though.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Served on-tap at Iron Hill - Lancaster during their recent X-Mas in July event.
A - Pours jet black; with hints of brown around the edges; with a small half finger tall tan head leaving streaky lacing down the glass.
S - Smells of coffee, bakers chocolate, dark roasted malt, licorice, light smoke, and sweet dark fruits. It is complex yet it smells like any other RIS would.
T - Starts off with plenty of rich coffee quickly giving way to a mix of sweet bakers chocolate, dark roasted malt, light smoke, and some sweet dark fruits. It has lots of smokey roast yet it remains quite drinkable. The finish has plenty of dark roast, mixing with some chocolaty sweetness, to linger on the pallet long after the finish.
M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Rich, roasty, feel with plenty of it lingering through the finish.
O - Very nice. I see why this has won all those GAFB medals over the years. It has lots of things going on inside it, yet it remains drinkable and easy to enjoy. I am glad they snuck this keg on at the last minute.
