A black version of the classic French saison, dark malt character blends seamlessly with the spicy fruit character of the saison.

On draft at Wilmington Brewpub. Pours a deep dark brown color with a one finger light tan head that fell to a ring. Aroma is roasted malt with some mingling chocolate and light spice. Sweet roasted malt flavor with hints of peppery spice, dark fruits and some light alcohol coming through in the finish. Medium bodied that finishes slightly dry.

Hazy brown color with a medium sized, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits, spices, vanilla, toast, and light alcohol. Taste of raisins, other dark fruits, spices, light sweetness, and a bit of alcohol in the finish.

Dark cola color with a thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, and spice. Lots of roasted malt flavor with chocolate, spice and a touch of dark fruit rounding out the flavor. Very nice beer.

On draft at the Wilmington location. The pour was pitch black, tan chocoloate colored head, good lacing all the way down. The aroma was chocolate, belgian yeast, phenolic, peppers. The flavor was black patent schwarz type malts, cocoa and bitter chocolate, dryness, phenolic and yeasty character in the finish. The mouthfeel was full and dry. An interesting combination, but I don’t think I liked it being this dark and roasty.... Less blackness would’ve been a good thing.
