BCTC. Pours a hazy yellow gold with a thin white head. Cheesy, candy corn, acetaldehyde. Smooth and tangy. Decent easy drinking saison.

In short: A basic yeasty blonde ale with an authentic Saison feeling.
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed when 6+ months of age. Sent to me by MrChopin, thanks a lot Kevin
The look: Cloudy blonde body topped by a medium off-white head
In long: Nose is pleasantly wild, borderline funky, like an authentic Belgian Saison. Taste is mainly about the doughy wild yeast. Flavours of white cheese, bubble gum, rather fruity with bananas and mangos, aromatic floral hops. The beer is adequately attenuated. Felt authentically basic. A very simple beer. Just your basic pale malts, a pleasant wild yeast and a good attenuation. Too simple of a beer to be worth the Iron Hill bottle high price tag but this is an underrated beer that any Saison lover can enjoy to some degree. And when it comes to Saison beer, I’m easier to satisfy than an ugly fat chick on prom night.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2007 Updated sample from North Wales. This time, they served it in a somewhat mor eproper glass, and wasnt nearly as cold, and was just better all around. Pours a yeasty, cloudy golden with lively carbonation and a nice fluffy whte head. Aroma is spicy, light citrus, and phenolic, but I couldnt say for certain that it was the dupont yeast- probably not. Doughy and yeasty flavor, some oragne peel, lemongrass, lightly sweet malts, and finishes lightly bitter and fairly dry. Much better than a few years ago. 2.9 for the old sample. Sampled again at the brewbup in westchester- too flat for the style- improper serving glass, not fruity or spicy enough, and served very cold. HBF 2005. Served too cold. Light gold and hazy with a decent head. Initial aroma is a wierd somewhat off yeasty smell. Moderate amount of esters and not enough spicy phenols in the aroma. Flavor was muddled and I couldnt detect enough of the subtleties due to the temperature- and I wasnt going to wait 15 min for it to warm up in my sample mug. The low carbonation also detracted from its appeal.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of yeast, slight coriander, and spices. Poured golden/yellow/flaxen in color with a small to medium-sized white head that diminished but lasted around the edges. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Flavor of yeast, slight citrus, and some spices. Medium body. Chalky, fizzy, texture. Lively carbonation. Yeasty, slightly citric, lightly dry finish.

Poured a hazy, orange color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of orange citrus, yeast, some bandage as well. Taste of orange peel, some vanilla, dry, yeasty finish. No alcohol noticed at all.

Thanks to Moll for sharing the bottle. Served in a mini tumbler. Nose is grainy and faintly nutty. Dry and very carbonated. Fluffy white head. Flavor is more nutty. Stale peanut butter. Dry finish.

Bottle courtesy of hopdog. Vibrant golden hue to the body. White frothy head. Aromas of lemon pie, baked apples, Belgian yeast, freshly cut flowers, fried bananas, candied oranges, and light spices. Very nice stuff! Taste is banana bread, sweet tangerines, sugary lemonade, wheat, light spice, Belgian yeasts, candy sugar, and light earthiness. Body is light and spritzy. Minimal carbonation fizziness. Light dry tart finish bringing forth more wheat, lemon zest, grassy hints, orange peel, and green apples. Yeast is present here as well and adds to a stronger bitterness. Very nice beer and like the Sly Fox saison, I’m not sure why the ratings are so low.

Spicy, peppery, lightly farmy aroma. Hazy blonde body with low, white, fine bubbled head. Spicy, citrus and haylike hops with a light funky note and clean fresh malt character. Medium light body with assertive carbonation that stimulates the tongue. Very nice if perhaps a bit too polite. Sampled at GABF 2005.
