COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This American barleywine has a dominant malty sweetness that is balanced by a huge presence of American hops. The hops give this beer a citrus-like hop flavor. Further dry-hopped for added hop aroma.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a medium size foamy head with light retention. Aroma consists of light caramel malt with some and some bitter hops notes. Taste is also a mix of light caramel malt with some bitter tasting hops. Body is about average with good carbonation and alcohol is not overly prominent. Not bad but I’m not the biggest fan of American style barleywine and this one appeared to be a bit tired.

On tap at IH Wilmington. Poured a hazy deep copper color with rusty reddish highlights and more than a finger of creamy beige head. Extremely sweet and malty nose with a hefty waft of caramel candy. Some earthy hops emerge in the back, as well as warm alcohol notes. The taste is smooth blended rich flavors, with sweet malts, sugar stewed cherries and raisins, dates and plums to start. Followed by notes of molasses mixing with a mild tingle of booze that thins things out a bit into the finish. Big and sticky, moderate carbonation.

A hazed amber Barley Wine with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity vinous malt with treacle, grassy notes, nice. In mouth, a sweet fruity caramel malt with light vinous notes, light fruity acidity, floral hops, pink grapefruit pulp, nice. Shared with GRM and Boutip.

Thick, rocky, tan head & red/amber hazy; perfect aroma per style, blend of malt, hops, and alcohol; flava is complex blend of acidic sweetness(blackberries) and dry/spicy hoppiness; feels medium bodied but very foamy on the tongue(which I like-some may not) that leaves my tongue tingling; finishes dry & sweet, leaving the tongue wanting more, and more. This is one of the top barleywines I’ve ever tasted. And I haven’t rated all of them on this website. I’ve drank a lot more than are recorded here.

Enjoyed at Iron Hill Maple Shade. Golden red pour with a frothy off white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is hoppy, and malty, with strong pine and notes of bread and yeast from the bottle fermentation. Taste is dark malt, plum, piney hops and bready yeast. Medium body. Nice carbonation. Enjoyed it but it’s nothing very special and certainly not worth $20 a bottle at the restaurant.

Hazy dark red - amber beer, tidy cream coloured head. Light nose of malt and aniseed. Softish palate, a little carbonated bite in the tail. A pretty fruity barleywine. Orange, cherry and pineapple with mildly toffee malt underneath. A little aniseed. Semi dry finish. An easy drinking and memorably fruity barleywine.

Bottle from the brewery in Newark, DE. Shared with Paul and Erica in Weehawken for the 4th. Couldn’t get a good look at the body but the head is beige/off-white and kind of creamy. Strong hop nose and lots of hops and fruit on the palate. Not as thick-bodied as other barleywines. Not sure I’d agree with those saying it’s more of an IPA, but it does have a stronger hop flavor than expected.
