COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This American barleywine has a dominant malty sweetness that is balanced by a huge presence of American hops. The hops give this beer a citrus-like hop flavor. Further dry-hopped for added hop aroma.

Bottle… C&P’sLYFO Throwdown… Cloudy brown ale with a small, fizzy, khaki head. The aroma is a rich, decadent swirl of buttery caramel. Full-bodied and velvety with tingly carbonation. The flavor is all about caramel as well - sweet, but not cloyingly so - rich and robust, but not overbearing. Caramely, bittersweet finish. Hazy dark red - amber beer, tidy cream coloured head. Light nose of malt and aniseed. Softish palate, a little carbonated bite in the tail. A pretty fruity barleywine. Orange, cherry and pineapple with mildly toffee malt underneath. A little aniseed. Semi dry finish. An easy drinking and memorably fruity barleywine.

On tap at IH Wilmington. Poured a hazy deep copper color with rusty reddish highlights and more than a finger of creamy beige head. Extremely sweet and malty nose with a hefty waft of caramel candy. Some earthy hops emerge in the back, as well as warm alcohol notes. The taste is smooth blended rich flavors, with sweet malts, sugar stewed cherries and raisins, dates and plums to start. Followed by notes of molasses mixing with a mild tingle of booze that thins things out a bit into the finish. Big and sticky, moderate carbonation.

Fruit, candi sugar, citrus on the nose. The appearance is dark amber, off white head. The flavor is fruit, candi sugar, citrus. The finish is citrus, pine. Medium in body, slightly thick. Nice.

My Bottom Line:
Humid resinous hopping and its diplomatic caramel soil are the proficient breeding ground for strawberry fruitiness and piney bitterness. This is a storyteller of a hoppy Barley Wine.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A bobbing cloud of foam covers the misty dark reddish brown which envelops the yeast microcosm.
-The body on this Barley Wine is rather slender, making you focus on its hoppy predominance.
-Frothy, big bubbles take advantage of the lean mouthfeel.
-A perfumy hop character lingers well beyond the finish.
-This may lack the residual sugars and lush caramelization to please some Barley Wine lovers.

Bottle; 2005 vintage bought at the Wilmington brewpub.

Another big IH 750ml bottle courtesy of Swolf3. Poured dark brown, with a tan head. Dry aroma, dried fruit as well. Very luxurious flavor, just permeates the tastebuds. Very enjoyable.

750mL shared by theisti. Pour is dark, hazy, reddish copper, cannot see through it. It has a small bit strong head, lightly sticky. Aroma is super strong, syrupy, alcoholic malts with a bit of an stringent hoppiness. Taste follows suit with a bit less of the astringency. There is the alcohol but it evaporates without leaving an alcoholic aftertaste. Its a strong barleywine like the other many strong barleywine, I don;t know what better way to describe it, this style of BW was once super cool and interesting but has become boring (I can get many similar for a much better price). Has a very thick and syrupy mouthfeel.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of hops, malts, and light pine. I think my nose is not working properly. Poured orange/deep amber in color with a small, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Very hazy. Sparkling. Lightly sweet, and light to medium bitter. Tastes of hops, slight brown sugar, light caramel, slight chocolate, malts, slight dark ripe fruit, light pine, light wood, and a hint of earthiness. Slightly viscous texture. Average carbonation. Lightly sweet, light medium bitter, light caramel, hops, and light wood finish has a hint of stickiness. 9.6%ABV is undetectable.
