DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 31, 2005 Draft at North Wales. Dark brown pour with minimal head. Aroma of smoked roasty dark malt, some chocoff, and some nuts. This one reminded me more of a smoked schwarz than porter, but it was good at any rate. The smoked element was subtle, and accompanied the malty, nut, and chocolate overtones well. This one would be great as a cigar accompaniment. weeare138 (928), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 16, 2005 Thanks to hopdog for sharing this smoked porter...
Appears a dark brown/black with a small off white head and nice white lacing.
Smell is of light smokiness and light chocolate malt.
Taste is nice and creamy with smoked peat and chocolate malt
Mouthfeel is slightly water but pleasant with mild smokiness lingering.
Drinkability is nice and pleasant. egajdzis (3021), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 9, 2005 Poured an indigo color with a thin, off white head that left spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, roast, and peat smoked wood. Taste was much of the same, with lots of smoke and a watery mouthfeel richlikebeer (747), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 9, 2005 smell of burnt wood, some sweet chocolate and a little caramel. looks a little thin while pouring, and the head fades down quickly to a ring around the inside of the glass. the smoke was the overriding character of the flavor, with the chocolate riding along behind it. i think this was a little too much on the smokey side and not enough on the other aspects of the beer. the flavors that were there were smooth, but just too muted. hopdog (4649), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 12, 2005 On tap at the North Wales location. On cask. Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of smoke, caramel, and chocolate. Tastes of smoke, light chocolate, light roast and caramel (all tastes on the softer side). Lightly sweet with a smooth body. The smokiness was stronger in the aromas than the tastes (but not over powering).
