lebshiff21 (64), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 11, 2008 On tap in Phoenixville. This is a very solid Belgian Tripel. Banana & spice greet you in the beginning and it finishes smooth, crisp and warm. Very well balanced, one of Iron Hill’s best beers. argo0 (6334), Washington DC, USA Dec 5, 2004 (bottle-conditioned 750ml) Opaque golden body with off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, herbal, fruity, some butter. Taste is wonderful -- moderately sweet, herbal, cardemom, orange, pear. Some syrup in the medium-full body. egajdzis (3138), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 18, 2004 Updated: Dec 5, 2004Hazy gold color with a small white head and some lacing. Aroma of banana and clove. Taste of citrus fruit, some banana and yeast as well. A nice tripel style beer, although served too cold, at... surprise, the Newark, DE location. Rerate from a bottle conditioned 750 from North Wales... At room temperaure this beer really rocks, very enjoyable, amazing taste! weeare138 (929), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2006 ’05 bottle bought for $19 at the Media store but brewed & bottled at Wilmington...
Appears a dense haze of golden orange with a lush white head that slowly fades out into a mild collar.
Smell is of light caramel, & tropical fruit with apricot and peach being standouts in a doughy Belgian yeast mix. Jesus God...why has it taken me so long to get into this?
Taste is of a pils malt base built up with sugary, caramel highlights, mild citrusy hops, and tropical fruit highlights, again showing flashes of the peaches and apricots and perhaps a touch of banana in the background.
Mouthfeel is sweet, chewy, medium bodied, and semi dry much to the ranking of an excellent champaigne. Mmmm, mmmm!
I don’t care what anybody says. This is one of the best friggin American Tripels that I’ve ever had, if not the best. If it wasn’t for the hefty price, this would be in my fridge at most times...unfortunately, it’s only for special occasions right now. In fact, I broke this open with my father in law to celebrate the birth of my new baby daughter. If you like Golden Monkey and are willing to spend a little more to get a little more, do it. TaktikMTL (2100), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada Jul 25, 2005 Verre de dégustation (provenant d’un fût) au Belgium Comes to Cooperstown 2005 (Cooperstown, NY). Arôme: Odeur de céréales et de caramel. Apparence: Couleur dorée foncée. Mince col mousseux. (Rating #233)
