On tap at the brewpub in Media, PA.
Pours with a red-copper body that has good clarity and highlights. Very good head and a good bit of sticky lacing.
Good bitter-sweet balance leans slightly sweet. No sour or other off notes. Some faint peat and vanilla notes and a touch of smoke in the finish and aftertaste.
Medium body and soft carbonation.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I’m not a huge fan of scotch ales, but this one blew me away! I sampled this beauty on draft at the Phoenixville restaurant. It poured a deep amber color with a purple-ish hue. The head was off-white and laced very nicely around the inside of the glass. The nose was sweet, malty and hinted at spices and alcohol. The flavors were complex, full-bodied and extrememly delicious. The character was smooth and very drinkable. I tasted sweet malts, caramel, yeast, warming alcohol and crisp, bright hops. The beer finished sweet and smooth with a punch of hops and alcohol.

This was a 2009 750ml bottle I have had in the cellar for the past four years. Pours a slightly watery, caramel amber with some swirling white head. Nose has some dirt, brown malt, prune, a little dried citrus peel, a little cream soda, cardboard. Flavor sort of jumps the shark, malty but not too sweet, prune, very dried raisin, dirt, cardboard, bath water. Dirty finish. I think this is probably 2 years past it’s prime.

Cloudy orange - brown beer. Tidy white head. Light soft palate., a little dry. Even soft malt. Some fresh orange underneath. A little carbonated bite and spice bring up the finish. A little honey in there. Nice beer, doesn’t taste like a heavy!

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A: The pour is a dark amber, maybe amber color with a huge off-white head.
S: Surprisingly fruity on the nose. There’s a lot of carbon dioxide aroma to it which sort of detracts from the other aspects. Some nice toast and toffee, though.
T: Good stone fruit flavors with a hint of smoke/peat. Plenty of toasted bread/malt with a moderate caramel and toffee flavor giving the beer its sweetness.
M: Medium in body with a very high carbonation.
O: Good, but the excessive carbonation lessens the enjoyment of the beer.
