fakepurseninja (601), Washington, USA Nov 1, 2008 Draft - Malt&Vine. I like the concept of BIPA’s and have had a decent one or two. This one was billed as a fresh-hop BIPA (was just a dry stout IMO) and was simply a dry, burnt malt moderately hopped boring drink. The drink is roasted to excess which completely masks any of the hop essence other than some lingering bitterness. Why use fresh hops in something if you are just going to cover it up with a huge burnt-toast malt backbone?
ditmier (337), Boise, Idaho, USA Dec 25, 2008 2008 Bottle - Pours dk brown, small brown head...aroma is subdued hop florals...flavour is way more bitterness than the nose would have you think...great hop presence without too much bite...decent black IPA... glkaiser (1029), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 18, 2008 Not quite black with medium brown head. Good doses of roast, coffee and solid bitterness. It all mixes together well, with minimal sweetness and very enjoyable. kyzr (1010), Belgrade, Montana, USA Dec 9, 2008 Beer thanks to riversideAK. Pours almost black with nice sized brown head. Roasty nose with hints of coffee. Flavor has hints of smoke, coffee, chocolate with the bite of hops that is crisp to the palate. A little out there, but well worth the try. Thanks Alex! carruthm (549), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 6, 2008 super dark brown or black pour, unusual for an IPA. Looks and smells more like a porter, but the taste has the hops in it, though again with some porter elements. danielcurtis81 (349), San Diego, California, USA Dec 5, 2008 Bottle. Pours a moderately bubbly black brown with a lasting, frothy, off white, light tan head. Roasted malt, caramel, dry coffee beans, and hops on the nose. Black licorice, pine, hints of chocolate flavors. Good hard candy flavors too. Mouth is sticky and bitter with a delayed dry finish. I dig this one!
