4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a dark brown with a light tan head that leaves spotty lacing. Smells of coffee beans and chocolate. Tastes like a mocha in beer form. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with good carbonation. Wow this was the best tasting take on a coffee stout I?ve had. Wish it was available more often.

Draft at GABBF: Poured a black color with brown head. Aroma and taste was super chocolatey and nice bitter coffee to break up the sweetness. Finished dry.

Definitely tastes like a mocha, cold, with a little caramel and smoke. Aroma very chocolate with vanilla and just enough hope raps to not be too sweet. barely a head. lighter in mouth than expected with a little fizz. clean finish.

I see it says "stout" on here. My bad, I thought it was a double stout and poured it into a snifter.
Here’s the rest.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown color ranging close to black. A slim finger’s worth of tan milky head formed and dissipated within about thirty seconds. Stringy lacing glosses along the sides of the glass.
The smell was a sticky sweet to light roasty espresso and a light cocoa.
The taste copied the smell to keep sweet and roasty smooth leading to a decent sweet dry espresso aftertaste. There’s a semi - dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation came across pretty smooth and practically barely there.
Overall, actually there’s nothing wrong with this beer. Iron Horse hits everything well. Next time I hope to have in a pint glass for proper glassware. I have to admit there’s a number on the side that says 101414, is that the bottling date? I don’t know.

1.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle stamped 10.02.14.
Poured from a bomber into a wine glass on 12.27.14.
A: Coffee, caramel, and coffee beans.
A: Thin foam for a head quickly recedes to a fluff in the middle. Opaque brown body with some see through red at the sides and bottom of the glass.
T: Coffee and coffee beans dominate. Caramel and water are subtle.
P: This was way too watery. I can see bubbles, but can’t feel much.
O: This was also incredibly unbalanced. There was way too much coffee bean. Caramel isn’t there except ever so slightly on the back end. The mouthfeel was terrible too. It was like they took water and added coffee grounds to it without brewing. This seemed like a beer that someone who just got into homebrewing made. What a mess. It took a ride down the drain.

Love this. Real flavorful, but not overpowering. Perfect dessert beer. Strong cocoa component AND coffee is present thru whole tasting. Delish.

A very nice coffee ale. Not as much overwhelmingly coffee as expected. Pours a vet nice red black with a thick tan head. Smells of espresso and cinnamon. Taste is super creamy, with fluffy chocolate, espresso and ice cream. Coffee is well balanced. Slight vanilla in the finish. Had in the bottle.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft pour at Frankies pizza. Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin cola head. Strong coffee beans aroma. Mostly coffee bean flavor, unbalanced, with just a little bit of chocolate. Finishes pure espresso. Interesting beer. Not quite what I expected. A little more balanced would be nice, but good flavor overall. Not bad.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours very dark brown color with a small head of tan colored foam. The head has a lighter level of retention, fading to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is massive of a coffee smell with this smell taking command over all the others. With the huge coffee smell, there are some lighter aromas roasted malt as well as touches of some toffee and caramel and a hint of cocoa.
Taste – The taste begins with a roasted malt and lighter coffee flavor with the coffee growing stronger as the taste moves onto the end. Right upfront there are also some sweeter flavors of caramel and toffee as well as a little bit of chocolate. The chocolate and sweeter toffee fade as the taste moves forward with a little more bitter roast coming to the tongue along with the coffee increasing. With a little bit of a woody flavor coming at the very end of the taste, one is left with a moderately dry and roasty coffee flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner side for a brew of 7 % abv. with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the roasted and coffee flavors of the brew a thicker body would have been slightly better accentuating the roasty and darker flavors, which are the base flavors of the brew, much more nicely.
Overall – An alright coffee like porter/stout but nothing out of the world. I actually prefer the Irish Death scotch ale (which this is based on I think) over this brew as I think it is more balanced overall and a better representation of the style
