For this seasonal offering, we started with Irish Death, our dark smooth ale that presents a full malt flavor laced with caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, and a touch of sweetness. To this heavenly ale, we added fresh, locally roasted espresso beans and pure cocoa. The result is a bit of confusion, “should this go in my coffee mug, or my pint glass?” Answer: both. This beer is up front with enormous coffee aroma, with the cocoa playing the sideline, until the taste. Lacking bitterness, the flavor comes forward with a rounded balance of coffee blending gracefully with the creamy malt body and soft cocoa flavors. Dark beer, chocolate, and coffee. You’re welcome.

Editors Note: Originally brewed as the Beer Shoppe 3rd Anniversary Ale.

First time on tap at Naked City. It is the most coffee smelling beer I have had. It is like a fresh scoop of ground coffee. Appearance is brown with a well maintained light tan head. Flavor is intensely coffee. Starbuck junkies will love this. The palate is a toasty grain. Very, very good.

Deep roasted, smokey wood nose with strong, expressive espresso. Deep roasted chocolate malt highlighted with a huge, fully roasted coffee bean character. Somewhat peaty and earthy. Light creamy mouth with smooth lightly bitter chocolate and wood finish. Very impressed with this drink.

Draught in a flight at the brewpub. Sweet Jesus this was fun... pours a clear dark brown color. Nose was roasty with LOTS of coffee coming off it, and a slight amount of chocolate. Taste had huge amounts of coffee in there, with a slightly sweet chocolate finish. Very pleasant drink. Me gusta.

Big bold brown pour, thick brown head. Oh yeah this one is nice. Loads of coffee and chocolate. Fudge, brownie batter, sweet and rich. A lot crammed in for under 8%

Very nice sweet stout. I had the base Irish Death recently, and this is exactly like that, but for a hint of coffee and a double hint of chocolate. Starts sweet, ends dry, and is quite good. B+ ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours ruddy copper with a one finger beige head. Aroma is coffee. Not sure about the chocolate. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is really coffee. Takes awhile for the chocolate to show up, but it outlasts the coffee. This is stark. They really put a lot into this one. Whoof.

Pours a dark brown with a light tan head that leaves spotty lacing. Smells of coffee beans and chocolate. Tastes like a mocha in beer form. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with good carbonation. Wow this was the best tasting take on a coffee stout I?ve had. Wish it was available more often.

If you like mochas and stouts this is one of the best combinations of those two that I’ve had. Very strong but smooth coffee flavor with just a hint of chocolate.
