Very nice brown ale. Slight chocalate, but nicely balance with Cascade hops. Enough malt to give this beer a very nice flavor.

I presume it doesn’t shock you that I’ve visited this brewery. Well, when I did I had this beer but the carbonation was screwy. The brewer apologized and I swore I wouldn’t write about it. It tasted funny and I told him it wasn’t my bag, but I’d give the bottles a go anyway. And that’s what I’ve done.

It’s a bright chestnut brown colour. There’s a rich nutty aroma with a slight woodiness. The palate is fairly dry - Mr. Quilter does seem to love his hops - with woody, nutty overtones. It’s only mildly sweet, definitely on the dry side of the style. The yeast is pretty clean, but there is a reasonable amount of malt complexity. The body is fairly light, almost like a mild. It’s a straightforward brown, but complex enough to hold my interest. And yeah, the carbonation makes a big difference.

9/20/08 On draught at the Ale House, Tacoma, Wa. Aroma is roasty sweet, with no caramel and no hop flora. Appearance is dark brown with a well maintained light tan head. Flavor is light roast with lots of cream and candilike sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium/full bodied with a moderate carb texture. Overall, simple but easy drinking and satisfying for a bigger brew.

12-oz. Best of the bunch from these guys so far tonight. Pours a nice murky brown with a thin and short-lived tan head. Nice graham cracker and molasses nose. Clearly they got what they intended out of this one, or at least got a fair way down that road. Nice medium body and softly carbed attack, with more molasses and graham cracker livening up the proceedings from the attack through the mid-palate and the finish. Browns rarely do much of anything for me, and this is a nice, safe example of this fairly boring style, but they mastered their QA issues with this one, and that’s encouraging after the previous two.
On cask at the Park Pub. The numbers apply to this beer. This developed a lovely velvety body, floral hop presence in the mid-palate (it really tasted like hop flowers), and nutty sweetness on cask. Not an all-the-time thing, of course, but great if you can get it.

Really like the labels from this brewery - this one look like a US Military logo; intricate and majestic. I like this beer for what it was and what it could be; would be nice cellared for awhile, though. Nice roasted malt that was sweet but nicely balanced with some strong upfront hops. Very malty and mild. Lots of biscuit and some floral to round it out. Lots of earthy and nut pieces without making it into a dirt clod. Kind of had that wet-dog taste to it but was counterbalanced by being awfully full bodied. Not being a fan of this style I think is a pretty exceptional Brown Ale.
