3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Strong sweet caramel malt in the nose. Clear amber-brown body is topped by a low but lasting, off-white head. Flavour is strong caramel and toffee up front with decent offsetting bitterness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Pretty straightforward but enjoyable. Tulip glass. Just above fridge temperature. Bottle.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
25-Dec-09 (22-oz bottle: Purchased 17-Apr-09 for $3.49 at Bottleworks in Seattle, WA)
While the 12-oz bottle I sampled a few years ago was infected, this bottle is perfect. The beer pours an unattractive, muddy, light-brown body with a rocky, tan head that rises to about an inch in height. Showing average retention, the head settles to a wide ring and leaves a few large patches of lace on the glass. Enticing aromas of sweet cocoa, dark bread, nuts, and toffee are minimally impacted by a trace of grassy hoppiness in the background. Sweet cocoa dominates the flavor of this malt-centric brew, with caramel candy, milk chocolate, toffee, and nuts giving significant contributions as well. The mouthfeel of this medium-bodied beer is rich, velvety, and smooth, with soft, but ample carbonation. Not a lot of complexity here, and the rich maltiness isn’t balanced by hops, but if a delicious, malty beer is in your sights, this one is pretty damn tasty!

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Transparent light brown with a thin head. Nutty nose with a little banana. High carbonation and malty notes, but as others have said, hardly a bomb.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle. Rating #11. Very hazy, almost murky dark brown piur with a thin tan head. Big malty aroma, sweet spices and raisins hit me in the initial smell, not what I expected at all. Flavor is a little more subdued, light dry gruits and a touch of toastiness, not bad. (2209)

Bit of hazelnut, bit of malt. Definitely does not live up to being called a malt bomb, however.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Caramel brown colored pour with a thin beige head. Mild aroma is earthy, nutty, and sweet. Good malty presence in the taste; earthy, chocolate, faint roast... a little more nuttiness. Easy sipper and not a bad session beer at all.
Earlier Rating: 7/14/2008 Total Score: 2.9
Bottle: A dark, leathery brown pour with a smaller tan head. Nose is malty and a bit grassey. A light amount of chocoalte is picked up. Taste is filled with maltiness, nutty, light chocolate, and a little bitters in the tail. Eh...

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, shared with JJ. Medium brown, average tan head. Sweet nutty caramel aroma, a little molasses. Caramel, light chocolate, hints of hazelnut flavours. Medium bodied, low bitterness in the finish, more acidic than bitter. Not a malt bomb by any stretch (it’s like calling Big Rock IPA a hop bomb), but not a bad beer.
