4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is truly, as labeled, a dark, smooth ale. Pours with nary a head. Flavor is all malt, all the time, with absolutely no bitterness. Sweet, but not overly so. Mouthfeel is not thick, although not thin either. Just a really nice beer all the way around. Wouldn't mind seeing an imperial version of this puppy. A-

Oaky, dark with a strong start, mellow swallow and slightly alcoholic finish. Goes great with heavy snacks.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Slight hop and sweet - dark brown and opaque. Sweet malt, hop was lacking in my opinion. It appears to be bottle conditioned - though thoroughly chilled and gently poured I got tons of yeast floaties. Was expecting more than it delivered.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Mild nose characterized by dark toasted grain. Dark brown and opaque. Extremely well balanced malt and toasted grain flavors, hopped just enough to counteract malty sweetness without overpowering. The vendor blurb is right -- very approachable.

4.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Sweet and malty, with a slight bourbon-y taste. This is definitely jumping onto my "favorites" shortlist!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours deep brown with a creamy, tan head. Sweet dark malt nose, some milky cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, sugary milk cocoa, light alcohol, some berries. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, sugary malts, bread, some sweet chocolate. Simple but decent for the style.

Lactose city. Plenty of coffee and some sugar or agave syrup. A little papery birch bark, and a hiiiint of smokiness.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
28 dec 2012, bottle. Dark brown, mostly clear. Nose is rather thin, smells of fresh dark malt and oatmeal. Thin body and mildly fizzy. Some milk chocolate, a bit of oatmeal, a bit too carbonated, kind of effects the flavor. Okay. By the nose I thought I was going to be very disappointed.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz Bottle. The pour was a murky dark brown with a small (less than 1 finger) light brown fizzy head that diminished in a matter of seconds, down to just a small collar with fair light lacing.
The aroma was somewhat mild with a roasted chocolate malt and a light doughy yeast with notes of dark fruit (raisins and dates), coffee, cola, molasses and a mild alcohol tinge.
The taste was a bold malty sweet with a good strong dark fruit presence and a hint of molasses and maybe chocolate from the beginning, and then took on a nice bold roastiness with a touch of coffee and a nice mellow alcohol ending. The flavor lasted an average time after the swallow, and what was left behind is still somewhat of a tasty mystery to me.
Mouthfeel was just about medium in body with a thin dry texture and a fizzy carbonation.
Overall the brewer is correct, I just can not put this one into any one style category. All I know is it is damn tasty and I like it...

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle. It pours cloudy brown with an off white head. There are notes of caramel, fruity alcohol, some hot alcohol, a little nail polish. This is way out of balance to me.
