BrewDad (1600), Olympia, Washington, USA May 3, 2008 4oz Taster - Hop Scotch Spring Festival - Seattle, WA
Aroma – Nice sweet dark malt aroma. Very much like a dark Scottish ale with the oat aroma and slightly nutty.
Appearance – Dark brown in color, clear with a nice head.
Flavor – Good deep dark malts with a slight oat and nutty flavor. This was a decent stout.
Palate – Great Mouthfeel, good beer texture with a dry finish.
Overall – This was an interesting beer. I had to look this up to see what it was. I was not expecting this to be a stout. It poured very light for a stout. The beer came across like a hopped up dark Scottish ale beer. Not sure if it was mixed-up or what was going on. Interesting beer.
HughConway (232), USA Aug 5, 2008 Bottle. Pours mahogany. Thick tan head. Nice fruit aroma. Taste is roast and fruit and sweet. Underwhelming. Angeloregon (1694), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 29, 2008 Thanks to Ezra and Jimmy for sharing this one--From a 22 ounce bottle--Poured a deep dark headless black-brown body. Roasted, dark fruits nose. Mild sweetness with not much body. Dull and under carbonated. Chocolaty and not very exciting. robforbes (669), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 13, 2008 pours black with a small khaki head, good lacing
smell of cocoa, vanilla, touch of coffee, roastiness.
taste is smooth, sour malt, dark chocolate, touch of caramel, some coffee bean, slight sweetness in the back, enjoyable aftertaste. cstuartj (240), Washington, USA Jun 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours a nice black with a shade of burnt red. not much head, no lacing. nose is rather nice, roasted malts, sweet over ripe dark fruits, a bit of pine. Attack is okay, a bit thin and overly sweet. finish is pretty bad. the beer gets worse with each additional sip. bitbucket (1528), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jun 6, 2008 Bomber. Pours clear cola brown with a fading tan head. Aroma of roasted nuts, toffee, fruit, chocolate with just a hint of pine sprinkled over it. Creamy, medium body with carbonation on the light side. Sweet taste of molasses, nuts, and a dash of chocolate leading to a semi-dry finish. I wasn’t expecting a coffee bomb from a sweet stout, but this is so un-roasty it seems more like a high-alcohol porter than anything else I can think of. I’m trying to think of why I might be motivated to buy a second bottle of this, but I’m just not coming up with a good reason.
