Created by the brewery’s founder, Quilter’s Irish Death is what we call a dark, smooth, ale. Any attempt at classifying it just ends up sending beer geeks into a style guidelines diatribe. So forget style guidelines. Is your pursuit of micro beer about tasting copies of a style that fit guidelines anyways? (Neither is ours) Irish Death is a malt bomb. We lovingly refer to it as beer candy. We heart our candy store. While tempting to session this beer, the name is a necessary reminder that despite the surprising approachability, this beer weighs in at a hefty 7.8% ABV.

Roasted grain aroma. Dark brown in appearance with a decent head. Balanced malt and roasted character and very smooth. Lovely mouth-feel and texture. Overall great beer for just drinking...

From can, the pour is dark brown with a a creamy brown head that lingures. The aroma is initially alcohol, vanilla and coffee. The taste is a little herbal, bright hops but not hoppy, hints of coffee. Smooth, creamy with a thick mouthfeel. The finish is sweet, malty, and a little alcohol. I like this beer, it appears dark, but taste is not a stout or porter, it’s hop profile is a good way to brighten the beer.

Dark chocolate malty aroma; black with brown highlights, nice but brief brown head; taste is lightly sweet with the faintest bitterness, likely from the roasted malts; the body is med-full but disappears rather quickly in a slick sort of way; I’d like to pair this beer with a chocolate dessert, maybe with s’mores, carrot cake, a nutty cheese, or a well done steak.

Draft at O’Dunkens in Twin Falls. Black pour, definite strong ale taste with stout twist. Heavy malt taste, very little hops or bitterness. Chocolate, coffee, etc. Not great, not bad. Better fall or winter drink.

Bomber shared by Ed. Poured a solid black body with a foamy beige head. Aroma is decently chocolatey, cardboard and brown box. Flavor is the same. Medium body with average to stronger carbonation. Nice beer for an Irish Stout.

22oz bomber from HBT trade. Pours dark brown/almost black color with a small foamy beige head. Aroma of chocolate malts, caramel, light vanilla, and light roasted sour malts. Taste mimics the nose with some earthiness.

I really dig this beer. Its dark but not heavy, perfect amount of foam. High alcohol content, great name. I’m into it. Bought in Vancouver with my dad.

On tap. Pours a clear red-brown with a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate, dried fruit and vanilla. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate, dried fruit, licorice and vanilla with a dry, light boozy finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Tasty.

Pours drak cloudy brown with a reddish tint and a head like overboiled oatmeal. Aroma of dark malts and overripe dark fruit. Dark cherry flavor and molasses. Kind a of a one note flavor and not one I particularly like in a beer. The beer is smooth. Other than the carbonation this beer is pretty silky in the mouth. Honestly, not one of my favorite beers. A bit too sweet and there isn’t anything to really cut the cherry flavor.

shared bomber. something between a stout and a strong ale. kinda like Old Vis, but not as good. Smooth maltiness, raisiny sweetness, roasted malts. and a decent bitter hop profile. Nice enough if nothing special.
