COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The ’Short Black’ of beer. Brewed using traditional methods and is double fermented. Its bitterness comes from dark roasted barley. Not for the faint hearted, its flavours are coffee, liquorice and pepper.

From 330ml bottle on 12/6/2010. Has a slight roasted malt aroma. The flavour is dominated with roasted malt, a bit of liquorice and toffee. Has a sharp, almost astringent finsh, which accounts for the reference to pepper. Definitely has a fair bit of taste to it, but it doesn’t quite come together.

A-- Poured a dark cola color and settled black. Just a few hints of ruby at the bottom of the glass and at the collar. One finger light brown head that fades to film. Some head retention, half finger, but really the beer looks best with the film. A few spots of lacing but not much. S-- Light and soft smelling. Mostly roasted malts and some coffee and chocolate. T-- Roasted malts, soft dairy chocolate, and some roasted coffee with coffee acidity. Thin but not bad. M-- Light bodied and low carbonation. Thin and watery in the mid and back quite clean though. Finishes with a pretty decent coffee acid finish. O-- Straightforward stout. nothing flashy about this at all. Nothing really sets this out either. Still true to style and pretty drinkable. Nothing that great though.

Bottle - Very dark red/brown almost black. Started of with a good tan head but it soon disappeared. . Medium carbonation and body. Slightly sticky mouth feel. Flavours of roasted malts and liquorice as per the commercial description but less so the , coffee, and pepper. A mildly bitter finish. An average stout.
