Sampled at the second annual Bistroís West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Fest: Pours a transparent ruby orange with a frothy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel and light fruity esters with some fresh oaky notes. Body starts fairly full with good sticky caramel malty sweetness and some oaky light fruity complexity toward a drier, toasty bittersweet finish. Well-aged and complex.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled at Toronado 2009 Barleywine Festival.
This 2007 vintage pours perfect clear amber with thin tan head. It has an inviting aroma with a mix of caramel, molasses, figs, cherries, roasted malts and a bit of alcohol heat. The taste has a very nice mix of molasses, caramel, toffee and roasty malts. By midway figs, cherries and raisins enter the fray creating a pleasing flavor sensation. It also seems a bit earthy from time to time with a sense of floral hops too. Interesting brew. I didnít pick up any wood notes in the nose or flavor.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at PP Carlsbad, 2007 vintage. Clear dark copper with a small creamy beige head--whatís here is well-retained. Lots of sweet toffee in the nose with a lot of toast behind. There is some Bourbon/oakiness, but not dominant and kinda hard to pick out. A fair amount of chocolate shows up with some light cherry. Flavor has more chocolate and some nuts as well, light umami, still very toasty. Not finding a lot o Bourbon or oak. It does have a slightly aged character, which is nice. Light to moderate carbonation with a medium full body. Alcohol masked well, bitterness at a 2. Medium full body with smooth lift carb. Not as rockiní as Iíd have hoped, but not bad.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
NorCal tasting Feb 07 - Another barleywine in the tastings that were OK. Nothing really stands out here. An aroma of mostly sweet caramel malts, with some hints of vanilla, oak and whiskey. Appearance was a deep mahogany brown in color with an off-white head. Flavors also were mostly sweet caramel malts, some light oak and whiskey notes, vanilla and brown sugar. Above average for sure.
