3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (2353) - Shropshire, - NOV 14, 201213 Nov 2012 and I’m back at the brewery owned ’Fighting Cocks’ in Oakengates: hand-pulled pint.
This is my first ’normal Wenlock Stout’, the Oak Aged version was lovely and Dave the brewer told me he is in the process of brewing another batch of that for December.
Dark, as you’d expect with a tan coloured head that produced some good heavy lacing.
Semi-burnt, roasted malts rule the nose and taste: not as smooth as the Oak Aged but still very drinkable. Dark chocolate and ground coffee notes come through as the beer warms a little in the glass, nice.

Cask at West Coast Brew Fest 2013 as Iron Bridge Stout from Freewheel. Pours dark brown with a frothy tan had. Aroma is earthy chocolate. Med body. Flavor is earthy milk chocolate with smooth burnt malt. Very nice.

On tap at their ’sister’ brewery pub in Redwood City, Ca. Deep dark body, off white head which stays the distance, with nice lacing. Subtle chocolate, coffee and malt notes. Smooth finish. A nice stout.

Very dark brown pour with a khaki head. Really nice roasted malt and coffee aromas. Some chocolate, earthy hops, and a light sweetness of toast and caramel. Mild bitterness to the flavor, earthy hops, and plenty of roasted malt and coffee. Good chocolate flavor, moderate hop character, and some nice sweetness.

Tasted on cask at the 2013 SF beer week opening celebration. It pours a brown/orange color with a khaki head. The aroma is very nice with toast, treacle and a little coffee. The flavor is toasty, lightly spicy more treacle and coffee with a nice roasty finish. Full bodied and packed with flavor. Loved it.

pulled from a cask, more malt than hops, rich dark color, long lasting this white head. Lots of caramel, chocolate, and more bitter than I expected, but in a good way.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 DruncanVeasey (6116) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Premier, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - FEB 4, 2012
Alfesco handpull, part frozen, The Horseshoes Winter Ale Festival, Nuneaton. Glossy, onyx-pitch ringed with beige. Aroma of coal-dusted roast- slightly cabbage-scented. Lip-smacking flavour melding blueberry and mellow, coffee butter cream roastedness; some chargrilled aubergine, Minstrels as it thaws. Layers of flavour belonging to a much stronger stout. Excellent- I’ve had some minor corkers from Ironbridge.
