Light bitter taste with an excellent honey nute in palate. White and thin foam stays for 90 seconds. Dark-caramel, somewhat blacky colour. Really good beer, worth trying!

Cask in the Bon Accord, Glasgow as Skye Black. Pours mahogany with a thin cream head. A little sharpness to begin with before some roasty flavour. May have been past its best.

Bottle on Skye. Clear deep red with a small beige head. Aroma of light roast mal notes, honey, some toasted malt. Flavour is roast malt, sweet berry notes, some honey. Nice balance between the roast malt and sweetness. Little bitter kick into the finish.

Bottle from Drinkmonger. Clear amber/brown body with a thin beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma of filter coffee, roasted malt and fig. Flavour of biscuit, stewed tea and a metallic, coppery finish. Thin body with a watery texture. Light fizz. Not bad, but spoiled slight by a sour finish.

Alengrin (2630) - BELGIUM - JUL 30, 2014
Scottish ale named after the mountains on the Isley of Skye and spiced with heather honey. Light beige, sticky, collapsing but stable head, colour a nice warm bronze with ruby red glow, clear. Nose gets freshly ground coffee, bitter chocolate, raisins, liquorice, tobacco, honey, biscuit, but hardly any honey. Taste a bit neutral at first, mineral-like, some dried fruit, thinnish mouthfeel, smooth and supple, nutty maltiness, quickly becoming more roastedly bitter, ending mellow and coffee-like, dry with spicy hoppy notes. Starts a bit disappointing but gets better towards the end - I guess this is better than the other way around.

Probably taken in the wrong season. Hot July! Burnt chocolate malt with little hob. Oats ans honey should have lent soft body to this porter, but I found it thin. Not really my style with low hopping and no pazaz. Bottle supplied by Ann and Neil.
