wyzzywyz22 (270), Wirral, Merseyside, England May 6, 2008 Bottle, Empire Wines, Birmingham. Very dark red, medium biege head. Aroma is sweetish and malty, with coffee , dark chocolate and a hint of smokiness.
Flavour is malty with some woodiness.
Finish is fruity with some bitterness. Not the most full bodied, but a canny wee glag nonetheless.
Doppelganger (1109), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Jul 29, 2008 Bottle, from the grocery store in Portree (a Co-op maybe?), Isle of Skye. Dark brown, Lots of nice sticky tan head. Dry toasty saltine cracker aroma, warm wholesome raw grain porridge, touch of briney chocolate. Gentle, pleasing dark bread and chocolate roast flavor, a nice grape tartness. Good full mouthfeel while remaining very morish. Not showy, but quietly a really solid beer, and it seems to have survived filtering rather well.
I also remember having this with Cullin Skink on the bay in Portree, and it stood up nicely to the cream and smoke. Retorp (2148), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 19, 2008 A sort of low key porter, but it is nice. Molasses, toasted malt, caramel and light roast in both flavor and aroma. A touch thin, but it has a comforting overall feel to it that I find very enjoyable and repeatable. The flavor lingers with cooked molasses notes. Very solid. Clear medium to dark amber brown color with a average to large, creamy, good lancing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, light burnt - peat, honey notes. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (180508) scotty (727), Scotland Jun 28, 2008 Looks good, thin head but its lasting well. Lovely nose, an intruiging mix of dried fruit, malt, coffee, spice and dark chocolate. Medium-full bodied, smooth and malty, the fruit and spice put in a appearance on the palate too. The finish goes on & on.... Crackin’ beer. Tesco.
