MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 25, 2007 My Bottom Line:
This calm and clean scotch ale presents diligent fruity caramel leading to a rather intense resinous hop bitterness for the style. A stately wee heavy which might satisfy your needs for portly maltiness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-Baccate fruitiness is developed within the caramel malt sweetness.
-Earthy, wooden hops ably balance out the malt festivities.
-Lively yet polite carbonation works admirable well with the round body.
-Butterscotch evolves with time.
-This is definitely not as sweet and buttery as their unfiltered version, called Am Basteir - The Executioner.
Bottle; best before December ’07. thewolf (5662), Kolding, Denmark Jan 20, 2007 Bottle. Muddy orange amber with a nice creamy head. Spicy aroma with tones of coriander, oranges, flowery hops. Smooth mouthfeel and slightly vinious. Flavours include an initial malty sweetness then roasted malt, then nuts and then a mix of alle the above spices and many more. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Jan 3, 2007 The head is nice and leaves nice lacing on this dark amber beer. The aroma is malty and hoppy with a slight hit of alcohol. The mouthfeel is good and smooth. The sort version is: NICE, the longer is notes of roasted malt, fruit, port wine, nuts and spice. Not like a Belgian, in it’s own way. This beer has great balance and the finish is long and nicely (moderate) bitter. Yummi!! emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Dec 31, 2006 Pours a dark amber. The head is thick and a yellowish white. The aroma is slightly sour, maybe some corn, very sweet malt, floral hop. The flavor is very sweet malt (eventually overpowering), slightly sour, tequila maybe, some bitter hop. The palate is very smooth and velvety, the one tolerable aspect of the beer. The finish is dry and thin. This beer eventually became unbearable. The more you drink the less you can stand it. I ended up just turning the glass up and chugging it to avoid dumping it. winegarner (220), san diego, California, USA Dec 13, 2006 Poured a light copper color with a thick lating white head. Very fruity malty aroma. Flavor is not very reminiscent of a scottish ale, more like an english bitter. Malty flavor with yeatsy fruitiness and quite a bit of hop flavor an bitterness. Alcohol is apparent thought it does not have the intensity of flavor of a stronger ale. valpoaj (362), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Dec 12, 2006 Poured a bottle under the name Wee Beast. Intense whitish head lingered for a long while, with a fruity aroma that was relatively intense. Nice copper color leads to a very smooth ale. Nothing too complex or overwhelming, but just a good beer to drink. Definitely a bit of bitterness associated with the finish. The high alcohol content is evident from start to finish in this very drinkable brew...recommend! bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Dec 12, 2006 (500ml bottle) Pours a deep amber body with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma of nuts, toffee, cherries, and chocolate. Flavor of caramel and nuts. Holdwine (905), Beertimore, Maryland, USA Dec 11, 2006 Nice, mild scotch ale. Pours a luminous copper. Fruity nose. Pleasant if light on the malt, but strong with berries, grassy taste.
