Big diacetyl bomb. Wild nose of caramel and toffee and butterscotch. Boldish attack, bubbly medium carb, lots of sugar and biscuit. Nice but not amazing, even if you factor out the diacetyl. Moderately sweet, lightly peaty, almost comes off as a brown. Pipe tobacco notes. Medium body. Orange/ brown, nice head which faded at the right pace. Good bottle, fair label. Didn’t take copious notes as I was at the pub with a business acquaintence, but it was very good. McNiven’s, Indianapolis. cgarvieuk (4171), Edinburgh, Scotland

Flavor is sweet with roasted flavors and a surprising hop bitterness. Not bad, but it seems to be lacking something. haddonsman (1234), Derby, Derbyshire, England

I like the US interpretations of a scotch so i wanted to try the real thing. This is a very caramelly beer, its almost candy like. I do like it, although i’m not sure how many i could enjoy. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Clear copper-ruby body with a very small beige head. Smooth very malty body with caramel and red fruits flavours. Rather timid hops. According to martint who brought this back from a trip this is the filtered version of the “Am Basteir The Executioner” that we also tasted on that day. I prefered The Executioner which had more depth with plenty of butterscotch and more intense hops. There’s no need for this tamer filtered version. The Executioner should put the Cuillin Beast to death and say like the famous Scottish Highlander Connor MacLeod “There can only be one”.
